WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
Olive is just your average student trying to blend in at School until a small favour explodes into one hell of a crazy rumour making her the talk of the town. Before too long every guy in school wants in on the action making Olive realize that popularity isnít always a good thing.
IS IT A GOOD MOVIE?
Teen High School flicks have become a bit of a clichť as of late and itís pretty easy to assume that if youíve seen one youíve seen them all. In the wake of the AMERICAN PIE films (that have quite frankly gone on for far too long) SUPERBAD came a calling and re-wrote a few of the rules. Like SUPERBAD, EASY A plays by its own rules and re-writes a few of its own. I went into this flick with low expectations but was happy to discover what a gem of a comedy this truly is.

Emma Stoneís character in SUPERBAD stood out because of her quick-wit appeal and despite not getting much screen time there she rocked the hell out of ZOMBIELAND for pretty much the same reason. Again, I wasnít totally sold on her leading a comedy on her own but I should have known better because sheís truly gifted and awesome at what she does. I loved everything about her character here but mostly I dig her witty dialogue and condescending burns. I also loved all the movie references written in at just the right time for added laughs but donít get me wrong, thereís no shortage of good lines as the script is extremely smart and the dialogue very believable.

What really hit home for me was the phenomenal supporting cast and the fact that each character got enough of their own screen time to actually shine and stand out. Oliveís parents are hysterical; I find Stanley Tucci to be a real treat when heís doing comedy, the guyís a master. Just about everything he says is laugh out loud funny. I knew Thomas Haden Church could do comedy as well and he and Lisa Kudrow make for some interesting teachers (youíll love Kudrowís character if youíre a fan of her FRIENDS persona). The only person that threw me for a loop here was Amanda Bynes. I guess I havenít seen her since that insanely hot MAXIM cover but I found she looked God awful in this film. I loved her crazy Jesus freak character but something about her looks just threw me off.

EASY A is easily one of the best High School comedies Iíve seen in awhile and kept me laughing my ass off from start to finish, something few comedies do these days. As much as I wasnít looking forward to the SPIDERMAN remake, it just got a little cooler in my eyes knowing that Emma Stone is playing a lead role. I donít remember much about the Scarlet Letter, though like most of the kids in the movie, I never actually read it either or watched the Demi Moore movie. I liked this story and found it pretty original for a High School film but bottom line is that it was funny as hell instead of just another sub-par one joke comedy or spoof earning it extra points in my book.
THE EXTRAS
Commentary: Director Will Gluck and Emma Stone take us through a very entertaining commentary done the right way for a change. Emmaís hilarious and makes any special feature worth watching though I would have loved some Stanley Tucci action mixed in there as well.

Extra Credit: Pop-Up Trivia Track: This feature simply brings up trivia questions and extra tidbits during the film exactly like Much Musicís Pop-Up videos. Some are actually pretty funny.

The Making of Easy A: Here we have a short making-of bit where the director explains the theme of the film is perception and how easy it is to get carried away. Yep, that sounds like High School to me.

Vocabulary of Hilarity: This is a brief look into some of the slang used (and in some cases made up) in the film. It begins with the cast all trying to spell Chlamydia and all failing miserably.

The School of Pop Culture: Movies of the Eighties: One of the coolest parts of the film for me was all the eighties flick references, this feature explores the choosing of these titles a little closer.

Gag Reel: Is it me or are gag reels getting less and less funny lately? This one is nothing special.

Emma Stone Audition Footage: Much like the title implies, here we get twenty minutes of Emma auditioning through various scenes and since lots of this didnít make it in or got changed itís actually worth watching.

Previews: Thereís a slew of trailers to choose from as well as some BD-LIVE content.
FINAL DIAGNOSIS
Emma Stone leads a perfect cast that not only works well with one another but provides one hell of a great comedy. Sure itís not as racy as SUPERBAD but it pushes its PG-13 tag to the limits and it works. Thereís lots here to enjoy and plenty of replay value.

I agree, Easy A was a surprise. I thought it would be a typical teen movie, with nothing new about it...I was wrong. While there was certain little parts I didnt agree with, this movie was in some ways refreshing in the midst run of the mill teen comedies. Emma Stone deserves credit for this movie and hopefully will further propel her movie career.
