WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
Coming to the realization that hes not like other elves, Buddy decides to leave the North Pole and head to New York in search of his human father who just happens to be on the naughty list. Packed with nothing but spandex and holiday cheer, Buddy is about to give Manhattan and his father a Christmas they wont soon forget.
IS IT A GOOD MOVIE?
There are very few Christmas movies that have that Oh, its Christmas, so I need to watch this feel to them. Ive always leaned upon SCROOGED to fill my A Christmas Carol quota, then theres JINGLE ALL THE WAY to remind me how much I miss Arnold and Phil Hartman (and also to remind that Jake Lloyd was once a cute little kid) and lastly theres the recent FRED CLAUSE which simply makes me laugh my ass off. ELF is somewhere between the end of the list and not making it at all. Dont get me wrong, the movie is pretty funny considering the concept (a grown man in tights who believes hes an elf) and though Id probably watch it if I was bored and flipping through the channels, Im not sure I would go out of my way.

The idea that Santa unknowingly abducts a baby and brings him back to the North Pole is uniquely entertaining but one does have to wonder why hed decide to raise him instead of simply returning him to his parents that same night before they even knew he was gone. Of course, I dont think they really want us to do much thinking here as the first twenty minutes make for a great acid trip themed flick, especially when Buddy decides to leave for New York in search of his father. Buddy has a full blown conversation with a talking clay snowman along with a slew of other talking animals which seriously does a number on this films tone as these bits are a tad bit more odd then they are funny.

In all honesty, Im not a big fan of Will Ferrell. With the exception of A NIGHT AT THE ROXBURY and ANCHOR MAN, this is about the only other film of his I find even remotely re-watchable. The guys overrated, predictable and terribly boring but I can honestly say that I cant imagine anyone else pulling off the character of Buddy the elf. There are so many great one liners and gags in this flick that you just cant help but laugh; Buddy eating the used gum, his all out brawl with the fake Santa Clause and then again with Peter Dinklage (whom I met in real life and is a riot when hes loaded) and my personal favourite, when he answers the phone and says, Buddy the elf, whats your favourite colour?

Whether you like Will Ferrell or not, ELF is one comedy that delivers the laughs time and time again whether youve been naughty or nice. I have no idea how James Caan was able to keep a straight face during all these ridiculous shenanigans but clearly the mans got talent. Most people have at least one Christmas flick they watch religiously every year but if you dont, I highly recommend this one. Im personally a bit biased because of my distaste for Ferrell but if I can get past that here, then the rest of you should have a blast with this flick.
THE EXTRAS
Commentary: There are two commentaries; one by Director Jon Favs (I had no idea he directed this movie until now) and the other by Will Ferrell. Admittedly, nobody could possibly do it better than Buddy the elf himself but both are equally fun to listen to.

Documentaries: There are a slew of documentaries here to choose from adding up to about an hour and a half in all. Were shown everything about Buddys world and his adventure from how they recreated the North Pole to how Will Ferrell fit into those tights. His bulge was all too noticeable.

Elf Karaoke: There are three songs to along with her if youre looking to get into the Christmas spirit: Deck the Halls, Jingle Bells and We Wish You a Merry Christmas, guaranteed to annoy the entire family.

Deleted Scenes: Theres just over ten minutes worth but the only one worth mentioning is the hilarious hockey game buddy participates in with his fellow elves in the North Pole.

Previews: Theres a theatrical trailer, an online link to more previews and as I mentioned before this Collectors Edition comes with a ton of cool stuff like magnets, a soundtrack CD, gift tags and your very own Buddy the elf stocking.
FINAL DIAGNOSIS
If you love Buddy the elf, love to laugh and need one last gift to put under your tree then look no further than this Blu-ray package. Theres a Buddy the elf stocking, gift tags and much more all stuffed into a cool looking tin box making this a win for last minute gift ideas.

Pay attention next time...

Buddy is an orphan baby.. Movie reviews are supposed to be done by those who are capable of actually watching a movie.. And Jingle All the Way? Seriously?
