WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
A 30 year old and his buddies still live with their parents and they run a website. The main character is Joblo…Ok, that last part isn’t real. Anyhoo, the dude’s parents want him out, so they hire a sexy Sarah Jessica Parker to lure him into manhood. A romantic comedy ensues.
IS IT A GOOD MOVIE?
FAILURE TO LAUNCH actually doesn’t fail at what it sets out to accomplish. It’s a somewhat entertaining romantic comedy that doesn’t break out of conventions, nor is it completely lackluster and boring. What makes FAILURE watchable, is the mild mannered Texan, Matthew McConaughey, who I say is the man. McConaughey delightfully plays your average dude kicking it at the parents with videogames, buddies, and an all around good time. Throw in some cool parents, Terry Bradshaw and Kathy Bates, and you have some fun. I’m not a huge fan of Sarah Jessica Parker but she played her part decently and in good nature. If anything the romantic chemistry pretty much worked, which is all one can really ask.

Despite the best intentions of the cast and crew, I wasn’t too thrilled with the movie – meaning it was pretty forgettable. After being treated to the excellent THE BREAKUP, I wanted perhaps more realism with my comedy and romance. More guys play video games, watch TV, and blow off other stuff than they do sail boating! C’mon! Do you think dudes that live with their parents can artfully whisk Sarah Jessica Parker by taking her sailing? The only other problem I really had was the whole agency for getting dudes out of their parents place by having hot women sleep with them stuff. Yeah, that exists. So, the movie didn’t fully fail but I wasn’t too thrilled with it either.

FINAL DIAGNOSIS
All in all, stocked and normal affair. While FAILURE TO LAUNCH is light entertainment, it just doesn’t break any new ground or offer anything new. Not to mention, some skewered conceptions about “normal” people that live with their parents. Oh, and I wasn’t delighted to see Bradshaw’s white, flabby ass. I’m going to say skip the movie and go see THE BREAKUP.
