WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
An ex-race car driver must complete a timed run across the city, for an unknown purpose, if he hopes to see his kidnapped wife again.
IS IT A GOOD MOVIE?
Poor Ethan Hawke. How on earth was he convinced this was a good script? Dude’s a phenomenal actor, and I’m loving his lengthening list of horror films, but this movie is total garbage. They can’t all be gems I guess, but GETAWAY is extremely bad.

The linear storyline is fine—down in the dumps race car driver’s wife is kidnapped so he’ll pull a job—sure, it’s been done, but with a little creativity, clever dialogue and a cool villain it’s still fair game. Too bad we get none of those. I had no problem with Ethan Hawke, but Jesus Christ people, stop casting Selena Gomez in thriller/action movies! She’s not a horrible actress, but she needs to find the proper niche/role, otherwise she stands out like a sore thumb. Now I’d like to say she’s the worst aspect of this film, but she’s not. Far from it. John Voight gives us one of the most ridiculously annoying villains of all time (and there’s a number of really bad ones out there). His dialogue (made insanely worse by his atrocious accent) is downright criminal, complete with far too many close ups of his mouth as he sips, drinks, yells and taps buttons on his laptop…which is all he does the entire movie. Sigh.

GETAWAY could have possibly walked the line between entertaining and watchable (which even then, isn’t anything to be proud of, let alone merit a film), but it fails on just about every level. There’s no real chemistry between our two protagonists, the car chases feel like GTA minus all the good stuff, the villain is beyond weak, the plot is full of holes big enough to drive through, and the ending (though clearly someone thought it as clever) will only make you angry. I know Hollywood is fast becoming a cesspool of mediocrity and cash grabs, but it would be nice to be treated to the illusion that a room full of monkeys aren’t writing these scripts between their daily shit fights.
THE EXTRAS
Behind the Scenes: There are five disappointing ‘behind the scenes’ featurettes that are a minute a piece (why bother?). They talk very briefly about the various cameras on the car, the crashes, the train station scene and Selena Gomez. Selina describes this film as a “simple action movie”. Well, I agree there, it doesn’t get much simpler than this.

Previews: There are a couple trailers that play before the film as well as a Digital Ultraviolet Copy of the film.
FINAL DIAGNOSIS
There’s not much else to say really, this could easily be the hundredth time this story’s been done on film, and the other ninety-nine were infinitely better. That said, if you’re looking for a holiday drinking game to get you completely smashed, take a shot every time a police car is smashed, Selena Gomez swears, and a double shot for a motorcycle crash. By the time the credits roll, you won’t even remember what you were watching.

My thoughts exactly

Couldn't have said it better myself... The movie is essentialy an 80 minute long car chase and it gets old REALLY quickly.
