WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
Two men obsessed with sex (a.k.a men) get a week off from marriage from their wives.
IS IT A GOOD MOVIE?
In terms of realism, HALL PASS has perhaps the most ridiculous premise ever. What woman would let her husband cheat for a week on the off chance that he would learn a lesson and appreciate her more? (Not to mention the fact that the idea comes from none other than The Views Joy Behar.) However, as a comedy, the plot should be fertile ground for laughs, especially in the hands of the Farrelly Brothers.

But while HALL PASS does have the Farrellys staple foul humor, heartfelt emotions and gross out scenes (plenty of dick jokes to go around!), the film doesnt really do anything with the high concept in the way of big laughs. Its amusing in parts, but never achieves real hilarityexcept for Richard Jenkins underused sexpert character. Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis are funny actors, but never get a chance to fully shine due to the script. As the main duo of the film, they spend most of the movie just hanging out together and not even hitting on women or taking advantage of the title situation. The pathetic nature of their misadventures might be part of the joke, but it doesnt make for a funny movie.

The same could be said for the rest of the supporting cast, who are all talented comic actors not given much to do. Jenna Fischer and Christina Applegate are fairly forgettable as the wives, and their entire subplot seriously drags down the last half of the movie. The group of friends played by Curb Your Enthusiasm star JB Smoove, Ricky Gervais cohort Stephen Merchant and Larry Joe Campbell are a comedic highlight, but their characters are only in it for a few scenes then disappear midway through. Even a cameo by one time Weird Science and KINGPIN star Vanessa Angel doesnt do much of anything.

Overall, HALL PASS has its moments but isnt consistent enough. The last act is almost completely devoid of anything funny as it tries to salvage its weird mix of morals, sex comedy and your standard romantic resolution.
THE EXTRAS
The extended cut available on the Blu-Ray adds an extra six minutes, mostly just a quick addition here or therenothing that really changes or fixes anything.

Deleted Scene: Richard Jenkins was by far the best part of the film so the extra addition here, featuring his creative way to get out of a DUI, is appreciated.

Gag Reel: Under two minutes and not funny.

The Combo Pack also comes with a DVD and Digital Copy.
FINAL DIAGNOSIS
HALL PASS might barely get a pass as a sex-romantic comedy, but between the Farrelly Bros. and the impressive team of comic actors assembled, its something of a disappointment.

Extra Tidbit: It cost $200,000 to use the "Law & Order" sound for the title cards.
