WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
An ex-DEA agent and his daughter move to a small boon town in hopes of leading the simple life, but when his daughter mixes it up with the wrong kid in town, the boys mother turns to her meth dealer brother for help in solving the problem.
IS IT A GOOD MOVIE?
At first glance, Homefront looks like another bland action vehicle for Jason Statham to kick the be-jesus out of baddies for an hour and a half, but in my humble opinion, you owe it to yourself to take a closer look. This is a thriller with heart, brought to life beautifully by the resonating bond between ex-DEA agent Phil Broker (Statham) and his ten year old daughter, Maddy. Evidently Sly wrote the screenplay years ago, and after outgrowing the role physically, he decided to toss it Stathams way. Its not perfect, but its far better than youd expect.

Much like the Rocks film, SNITCH, this flick deals with the drug world in a way thats not wholeheartedly original, but wont have you rolling your eyes either. I like Statham as a single dad trying to help his daughters world make sense in the wake of losing her mother. The ball starts rolling when his daughter slaps around a bully in her class, igniting the rage of her tweeker, hillbilly parents (Kate Bosworth plays the role of a strung out junkie a little too convincingly). Now her brother just happens to be the small town meth dealer with ambition (James Franco), who goes after Statham and digs up the ghosts from his past. This is all fine and dandy with me, as a matter a fact, I LOVE Franco as a villain, but much like all the other baddies here (and in any other Statham flick), they just fall short on a confrontational level. I love watching Statham beat the shit out of people, especially when theyre slimy bastards who deserve it, but hes never truly met his match. The one and only time there was potential for it was in EXPENDABLES 2 when he was pit against Scott Adkins. I was so pumped. THAT had the potential of being an epic fightbut instead they watered it down to nothing in preparation for the Stallone/Van Damme fight. Im still bitter.

HOMEFRONT brings nothing new to the world of cops, drugs and thugs, but thats okay. There are some cool set pieces (Stathams house and yard are to die for), great fight scenes, and a heartfelt bond between father and daughter. The story itself plays out a little blandly, and the ending is nothing to write home about. My biggest complaint is that Francos character didnt push the villain envelope and become truly memorable. He couldve been so much more, and Francos a great actor for villainy. I was hoping for bigger and better. Dont give up on the evil gig, Franco, youre perfect villain role is still out there waiting for you.
THE EXTRAS
Deleted Scenes: Not much to see here, but I cant see any of this dragging down the story so Id have kept it in.

Standoff: Statham sure knows how to deal the pain, and the bad guys just keep coming back for more. Heres a closer look at the beatdowns.

Previews: There are a slew of trailers as well as a DVD and Ultraviolet Copy of the film.
FINAL DIAGNOSIS
Statham fans can rejoice, dudes still got it, hes not throwing in the towel just yet. He may be a leading man on the expendable team, but hes nowhere near finished his run as leading man material when it comes to action. You dont need to own this one, but you should damn sure watch it.

Extra Tidbit: Winona Ryder is still hot.

I thought it was okay. Conventional but sturdy.
