WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
A man (Stahl) inadvertently gets mixed up with bank robbers when he tries to fight the system and win back $20.
IS IT A GOOD MOVIE?
Now here is a man who simply won’t bend over for Mr. Big Money Corporation III; a man who’s gonna show ‘em that he won’t be swindled out of his…20 bucks?! With nothing to his name but a few parking tickets, Jason “Jinx” Taylor (Nick Stahl) needs that $20 bill. But since it’s never that easy, “Jinx” finds himself intruding on a bank robbery and locked inside a vault with no clear exit.

In the vault with him is bored, bitchy employee Jessica (Erika Christensen, Swimfan). Controlling the floor is greasy-haired Simon, played by Gavin Rossdale (that guy in all the Gwen Stefani paparazzi pics). And behind the whole showy stand-off is writer/director Andrews Jenkins, a music video veteran who uses a fast-tempo score and MTV camerawork to trick us into thinking his debut is hip.

But How to Rob a Bank is about as hip as Guy Ritchie (spare the e-mails, folks, the guy’s a phony)—the dialogue is forced (and contains far too many Duran Duran references), the performances are awkward (Stahl and Rossdale especially), and for christssakes, it’s 20 dollars! No one is “cool” begging for a piece of paper with Andrew Jackson’s portrait on it.

“But he’s got principles!” you might defend him. Sure, no one likes the ATM surcharges or the excessive late video fees, but sometimes it’s just not worth being trapped in a room with Erika Christensen.
THE EXTRAS
The Making of How to Rob a Bank is divided into The Story (4:08), where director Jenkins and producer Rick Lashbrook sit down to provide minimal insight into movie, and The Characters (5:58), which takes a look at the main players through interviews with Jenkins, Stahl, Christensen, and Rossdale.
FINAL DIAGNOSIS
How to Rob a Bank is every bit as lame and uninteresting as you'd imagine...and we learn nothing about robbing a bank!
