These dudes will do anything for a laugh to the point that I actually had to ask myself if they were for real or not. If so, I wonder what they do in their spare time? Whip each other with barbed wire while sporting celery sticks up their rectums? If this isn’t “all show”, we’ve got a serious case of S&M fetishism on our hands. My favorite bits in this perverse human zoo had to be the Night Pandas sequence where our boyz rollerbladed through the streets of Japan dressed in Panda outfits while causing a ruckus. Seeing Johnny Knoxville get his face bashed in by some tubby boxer in a store was also GREAT TIMES and I couldn’t help but laugh at strip whore “Party Boy” (Chris Pontius) who likes to take it off in public places and boogie in a thong. Toss in there some kool cameos (Tony Hawke, Henry Rollins and Spike Jonze owning in old age makeup), some rockin' good tunes and you get a Piñata of pleasurable monkey business.
On the limp side, some of the jokes didn’t work for me (like the swamp pole vaulting) and some of the gags felt staged (the mom/crocodile thang or anything else with that family). There were also way too many men’s asses and crotch shots on display for my liking. Give us some female stuff, yo! But on the whole, I had a giggle riot with this flick and in this crummy world a couple of earnest smiles are worth a lot. Once you go Jackass, you won’t go back!
Jackass Group Commentary: This “all over the place” commentary had the motley crew (minus Knoxville) looking back fondly at the stunts they had to perform for the film and babbling about the “shite” they had to go through to get them done. This commentary track was loud, unfocused and also had some dead time, but it was fun in a “background while you get a headjob" kind of way.
MTV’S Making of Jackass: The Movie (24 minutes): This slickly edited feature had the Jackass duders talking about the film, the troubles they encountered during the shoot and how some of the "stunts" were planned, mucked up and eventually accomplished. Groovy times!
Outtakes (~ 7 minutes): Outtakes from the film in which lines are flubbed and some of the pain hurts too much. Watchable.
Additional Footage (~ 30 minutes): This feature is almost worth as much as the movie with a horde of extensions from certain gags found in the film and jokes that didn’t make the final cut at all. You have to watch the “pocket ass return” bit where Johnny returns a bloodied up rubber ass to a sex shop. FUNNY SHITE! I also really dug the AMBITIOUS failed ending and the “Party Boy” stuff. In my book, there can never be enough “Party Boy”. AWESOME EXTRA!
