WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
Scientists find a way to clone dino-DNA from mosquitos and before you know it, Colonel Sanders builds a kickass park on a remote island full of dinosaurs. His trial run doesnt exactly go too smoothly, which is why he eventually turned to cloning chicken. Its much safer, and tasty too.
IS IT A GOOD MOVIE?
I can still remember how excited I was to see this movie when it came out. Everyone loves dinosaurs, and the pitch for this movie is one of the top five celebrated idea pitches of all time. Im not at all for the idea of bringing back movies in 3D. 3D is a tired enough gimmick on its own (and youll never sell me on the idea of 3D TVs either), but the obvious double dipping cash grab of bringing movies that rocked the box office back in 3D is equally exhaustingTitanic, The Lion King, Finding Nemo and Jurassic Park. All great films, of course, which is exactly the reason theyre coming back in 3D as a sure fire way of separating us from more green. That baloney aside, hows the flick hold up? Pretty damn good for the most part.

Obviously going through this film now, knowing what happens at the park, and being twenty years older, we can immediately see plot holes, gapes in logic and utterly ridiculous character decisions sticking out like a third nipple. That said, theres still no better bang for your buck as far as entertainment value goes. I love both Sam Neill and Jeff Goldblum, and their characters still work for me. Laura Dern and the kids are watchable, but the real gag is trying to watch Samuel L. Jackson in a watered down PG role. Hearing him say stuff like, Hold on to your butts makes me giggle. That, and the fact he doesnt yell once. I mean, damn, think of him nowadays ending up in a movie with dinosaurs running around, or better yet, up against a T-Rex. I would pay anything to see something like that. The dialogue alone (yelling and F-bombs galore) would be worth the price of admission.

JURASSIC PARK is one of THE all-time great films of my generation. Hands down. The concept, story, and most importantly, the effects are downright magical. This film does exactly what movies are supposed to do, what they were intended to do, which is take us on a fantastic journey of epic proportions. Sure, some of this doesnt make a damn bit of sense, and most of the character decisions are completely plot driven, but we get to see live dinosaurs and thats pretty damn awesome. I read a synopsis for a movie about fifteen years ago (I forget the name), about a group of extreme hunters who, by use of time travel, go back in time to hunt a T-Rex as the ultimate sport. Never did hear about it again, but I was immediately pumped to see it. Why? Because it had dudes hunting a damn T-Rex! How could that not be awesome as hell? The same can be said about JURASSIC PARK. Never mind the sequels, but this one, the original, still oozes class and fun. Its a must own Blu-ray for sure.
THE EXTRAS
Return to Jurassic Park: Dawn of a New Era: Just like it sounds, this is Spielberg delivering the goods on this epic masterpiece to the next generation of moneyI mean people. Theres lots of recycled footage here though.

Return to Jurassic Park: Making Pre-History: Same thing as the last one with the focus switched to the dinos and the effects and here Spielberg shares the spotlight with his production team. Where are the actors? Id have rather heard from them.

Return to Jurassic Park: The Next Step in Evolution: Zzzzz. The same type of thing only here Spielberg and his production team discuss how they all had doubts as to whether or not people would take to the idea of dinos running wild in present day. I think its safe to say they took to it just fine.

DVD Features: All the old special features from the DVD release of the film are here as well as well as a making of segment for the Jurassic Park game.

Previews: Theres a theatrical trailer, a few previews, some BD-LIVE content as well as a 3D Blu-ray, DVD, Ultraviolet and Digital Copy of the film.
FINAL DIAGNOSIS
Again, 3D bullshit aside, this movie rocks. It was a milestone for Spielberg and a hell-of-a good time for everyone who ventured out to see itno matter how many times. It still looks great twenty years later and it still has the power to suck you into its magical world, and even though most of the features are recycled, its still a pretty decent package.

the movie you're talking about

A Sound Of Thunder, adapted from a Ray Bradbury novel. The production company went bankrupt during the shooting, so the movie had a limited theatrical released, with some unfinished SFX, and an almost 'work in progress' cut... It obviously bombed... You can find it on DVD at Warner, if I remember correctly...

That sucks, it sounded like fun. Thanks for the heads up, I'll see if I can't track it down.
