Obviously going through this film now, knowing what happens at the park, and being twenty years older, we can immediately see plot holes, gapes in logic and utterly ridiculous character decisions sticking out like a third nipple. That said, there’s still no better bang for your buck as far as entertainment value goes. I love both Sam Neill and Jeff Goldblum, and their characters still work for me. Laura Dern and the kids are watchable, but the real gag is trying to watch Samuel L. Jackson in a watered down PG role. Hearing him say stuff like, “Hold on to your butts” makes me giggle. That, and the fact he doesn’t yell once. I mean, damn, think of him nowadays ending up in a movie with dinosaurs running around, or better yet, up against a T-Rex. I would pay anything to see something like that. The dialogue alone (yelling and F-bombs galore) would be worth the price of admission.
JURASSIC PARK is one of THE all-time great films of my generation. Hands down. The concept, story, and most importantly, the effects are downright magical. This film does exactly what movies are supposed to do, what they were intended to do, which is take us on a fantastic journey of epic proportions. Sure, some of this doesn’t make a damn bit of sense, and most of the character decisions are completely plot driven, but we get to see live dinosaurs and that’s pretty damn awesome. I read a synopsis for a movie about fifteen years ago (I forget the name), about a group of extreme hunters who, by use of time travel, go back in time to hunt a T-Rex as the “ultimate sport”. Never did hear about it again, but I was immediately pumped to see it. Why? Because it had dude’s hunting a damn T-Rex! How could that not be awesome as hell? The same can be said about JURASSIC PARK. Never mind the sequels, but this one, the original, still oozes class and fun. It’s a must own Blu-ray for sure.
Return to Jurassic Park: Making Pre-History: Same thing as the last one with the focus switched to the dinos and the effects and here Spielberg shares the spotlight with his production team. Where are the actors? I’d have rather heard from them.
Return to Jurassic Park: The Next Step in Evolution: Zzzzz. The same type of thing only here Spielberg and his production team discuss how they all had doubts as to whether or not people would take to the idea of dinos running wild in present day. I think it’s safe to say they took to it just fine.
DVD Features: All the old special features from the DVD release of the film are here as well as well as a making of segment for the Jurassic Park game.
Previews: There’s a theatrical trailer, a few previews, some BD-LIVE content as well as a 3D Blu-ray, DVD, Ultraviolet and Digital Copy of the film.
