WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
Real life couple Ashton Kutcher and Brittany Murphy play a pair of young newlyweds from differing backgrounds. He's a young radio jock and she comes from a wealthy, uppity family. Completely in love, they get hitched, hop on a plane and take off for a disastrous European honeymoon that involves burning castles, tiny cars, cockroaches and many, many bruises. How can the fresh marriage survive?
IS IT A GOOD MOVIE?
The trailer and TV spots for this film would make you think that you were headed to the movies to catch a silly, slapstick comedy but in fact, it isn't so much. The film had few hilarious moments (although the few were just that: hilarious!) but was mostly just "cute". The premise is pretty straightforward: a young couple in love heads for a Honeymoon where they find that living in close quarters is entirely different from what they'd imagined. A clumsy husband, a cute wife and a lechering snob still chasing her skirt (Kane) make up for mucho trouble and some giggles. Kutcher and Murphy are both pretty funny and amiable actors and their real life romance (I think it's over now though... not sure), really came through as they very obviously "connected" in a comedic way with some strong timing and an ability to play off each other.

They also both happen to be charming as heck and have uncanny abilities for physical comedy. It's rare that I would actually say something like this, but I could have used a bit more goofiness coming from this film and a little less corn syrup. Don't get me wrong though, some parts are downright sidesplitting, such as the one where our honeymooners try to join the mile-high club and the one in which they travel high European cliff roads in a car that will have you spitting your milk out your nose. To sum this movie up, it has cute, fun stars, a sweetheart script, a few giggles and one or two gut-buster spots. It won't make the cut for all-time comedy classics, but it won't send you back to the video store with the intention of pile-driving the poor schmuck who suggested you rent it.
THE EXTRAS
A few little things are available here, beginning with a full-length audio commentary featuring director Shawn Levy and stars Kutcher and Murphy. This commentary is pretty consistent with the film itself. When I noted that Kutcher and Murphy were present, I expected some rowdy fun but much like the movie, it wasn't all that funny-- which isn't to say that it wasn't good. The track is actually a pretty well-paced, very informative one and it does have a few goofy spots, but I guess I was hoping for more zingers from the two stars.

The second feature is one of those dreadful Comedy Central features entitled "Comedy Central's Reel Comedy: Just Married Making Of Featurette". Basically, some flitty-looking dude who would make Bob Goen look like Walter Cronkite tosses softballs to Ashton and Brittany, who both seem to be wondering what cage he escaped from. Twenty minutes of back-patting that you can certainly find a better way to spend, unless you live alone in a basement with more than four cats.

The last feature is a set of four deleted scenes with optional commentary by the director. The scenes are in the image of the movie. High on emotions, low on laughs and even though they both show the two young stars putting on some nice performances, they really wouldn't have fit into the final cut. The Theatrical Trailer is also here.
FINAL DIAGNOSIS
This movie's pretty cute and many will get a kick out of it, but it's definitely more of a rental than a purchase. The DVD doesn't really have anything very compelling in terms of extras, but it's not as horrid as some others either. Good way to spend a quiet evening with the girlfriend, and it may even get you off the hook for marriage for at least a few months!
