WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
June, your flamboyant everyday gal, suddenly gets mixed up with a government agent whose supposedly gone rogue and lost his mind. Past the point of no return, these two characters must now trust one another if they plan on surviving their unique situation.
IS IT A GOOD MOVIE?
Tom Cruise can do no wrong on screen as far as I'm concerned; he's one of few actors whose work I can honestly say always brings it home for me. That's not to say some of his films aren't better than others (which is obvious) but I've never watched a Tom flick I didn't appreciate on some level. KNIGHT AND DAY isn't MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 4 but in some ways it does try to be. Seeing as how Tom plays a highly trained government agent, it's very easy to imagine him as Ethan Hunt which is exactly how I perceived his character. This film is nowhere near as complex or layered as an M.I. film but there's enough there to tickle the imagination.

Many are calling this film a dud, and in light of the stream of let downs this past summer lobbed onto the big screen I'm not entirely surprised. This film tries to be MR. AND MRS. SMITH but in no way delivers that sort of promise. Tom can sub in for Brad sure, but Diaz is no Angelina and for me that's where this film hit a sour note. I've never been too keen on Diaz as an actress, she's managed to surprise me a couple times with films like ANY GIVEN SUNDAY, VANILLA SKY and WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS (not to mention how sinfully hot she was in THE MASK) but other than that she comes off as either a soulless bore or an annoying bimbo who's trying too hard. This film could have flown higher with a more capable female lead in my opinion.

I really dug the energy here and Iím totally feeling the luscious locales (especially Tomís private beach retreat) which looked even better on Blu-ray but something tells me they could have played around with this one more. The characters and dialogue are fine, the action is top notch and thereís a nice flow of humour wrapped into the plot but something did feel off. I canít exactly pinpoint it but this must be why people were so eager to jump all over the film. I donít agree with all the bad criticism but Iíd have been lying if I said everything felt perfect.

KNIGHT AND DAY is enjoyable for what it is but in my opinion fell victim to the summertime blues. Most people were eagerly anticipating that next big flick and kept getting let down as they waited for stuff like PREDATORS and THE EXPENDABLES to come around. The story and concept for KNIGHT AND DAY is worn out to be sure, a fresher take on this concept came from Angelina's SALT and honestly that's the sort of envelope pushing this genre needs to survive in the long run outside of the James Bond, Ethan Hunt and Jason Bourne films. People are still beating up on Cruise but I think he personally was great here and I for one am totally looking forward to the next M.I. film and am also very curious about how they're going to make a Les Grossman feature film.
THE EXTRAS
Wilder Knights and Crazy Days: The cast and crew come together to discuss how much fun this film was to make and how movies like this one donít get made all that often in Hollywood. So action/espionage films donít get made all that often? Hmmm.

Boston Days and Spanish Knights: Here we get a brief explanation of how they changed locales as our heroes traveled from one end of the world to the other. I wish I had a private island to escape to every now and again.

Knight and ďSomedayĒ; featuring The Black Eyed Peas and Tom Cruise: Tom and Kate travel to London to ask The Black Eyed Peas to write the filmís theme song while the band are on tour. I guess they donít have email.

Viral Videos: There are two viral videos here; Soccer and Kick. Both are pretty cool and fun to go through.

Knight and Day: Story: Itís hilarious to hear Tom define his character as a spy/secret agent but not say that this story was influenced by his Ethan Hunt persona which seems nearly identical.

Knight and Day: Scope: This is pretty much a rehash of the first feature that goes over all the same stuff thatís already been said. I love when they recycle features like this.

Previews: Thereís a theatrical trailer, some other previews as well as a DVD and Digital Copy of the film.
FINAL DIAGNOSIS
Love him or hate him, Tom Cruise is still a great action star as far as Iím concerned and I donít think heís going away anytime soon. Weíre all entitled to a ďnot so hotĒ flick every now and then and if this is that film for Tom, I think heís doing far better than a lot of his fellow stars.

Knight and Day surprised me and I love the chase at the beginning of the movie that was shot in Boston.
