Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers
When I think of Basketball, I think of Michael Jordan (he may be a little old school, but itís better than saying Denis Rodman or Shaq, both of which made really bad movies that make me want to puke). I read a caption in a magazine once that struck a chord in me, and for this reason, Iím able to appreciate Basketball enough to enjoy this film. It was a picture of Michael Jordan with his head down and the caption read, ďIf I didnít play Basketball, would I still be your hero?Ē It may not sound like much, but as I writer, I found it to be one of the most powerful quotes Iíve ever read. Kobe has that spirit; heís a natural leader, a nice guy and someone people look up to. You couldnít ask for a better teammate.
I have tremendous respect for athletes, be it in Basketball or otherwise. In this case, one of my favorite aspects of this film is watching Kobe do his pregame prep while listening to the buzz of the TV as well as the many peopleís predictions. The amount of pressure on people with his kind of talent can be brutal, and I canít imagine prepping for such a big game while listening to the TV preach about how well youíre GOING TO DO, or HOW GREAT YOU ARE and HOW YOUíLL CARRY THIS TEAM TO THE PROMISELAND. Thatís a lot to put on anyoneís plate, mentally, physically and psychologically. Personally, I couldnít listen to all that before I went out, so my hatís off to Kobe, the manís earned his MVP and superstar status as far as Iím concerned.
Deleted Scenes: I wouldnít quite call this a deleted scene; itís just footage from the fourth quarter press conference. They all look the same to me.
Photo Montage: Four and a half minutes of game shots set up like a slideshow. They sure do manage to capture the intensity of the game.
Music Video: The music video ďLevitateĒ by Bruce Hornsby. Itís not much of a video as it is this song playing to the game footage.
E: 60-Behind the Scenes: A quick two minutes of key game footage with Spike Lee giving us his two cents. The man loves his Basketball.
Previews: There are a couple movie trailers, a Blu-ray commercial, a funny Shaq commercial and the choice to watch the game ďas isĒ without Kobeís commentary. This film also comes with an Upper Deck Kobe Bryant Basketball card.
