WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
When he suddenly finds himself without his long-standing blue-collar job, Larry Crowne (Hanks) enrolls at his local college to start over. There, he becomes part of an eclectic community of students and develops a crush on his teacher (Roberts). Now this simple guy will discover that when you think everything worth having has passed you by, you just might find your reason to live.
IS IT A GOOD MOVIE?
Since Im not a particularly big fan of Tom Hanks, when I first threw LARRY CROWNE into the DVD player, I made a promise to myself to be objective about the film, since there are many people who do like Tom Hanks. There are films that I do really like him in (like Hanks as the iconic voice of Woody from Toy Story), but generally, I tend to not really enjoy many of his movies.

The trailer for LARRY CROWNE does a pretty good job of summing up the movie in a nutshell. You really dont actually have to see the movie, since it pretty well shows you absolutely everything interesting that happens in the movie. Ok, maybe thats a bit harsh, but I dont think its a big secret that movie trailers tend to give too much away these days and this trailer is no exception.

This film banks on being relatable to the common people who are going through crisis because of the state of the economy. Its meant to be a romantic comedy, but LARRY CROWNE is missing a couple of things for that: the romance oh right, and the comedy. I actually thought maybe this movie wouldnt be so bad since it was written not only by Tom Hanks, but also My Big Fat Greek Weddings Nia Vardalos and however hokey that movie was, it was also fun. LARRY CROWNE? Not so much.
THE EXTRAS
Deleted Scenes: The deleted scenes feature was 8 minutes long and each scene in this feature was cut out for good reason. There was virtually nothing worth watching and really didnt add anything to my LARRY CROWNE experience.

The Making of Larry Crowne: This is your cookie-cutter Making Of feature. The cast and crew go over their roles in the film, what the movie meant to them and they talk about their characters all while clips from the movie (that I just finished watching) are playing throughout. (cue inspirational music)

Fun On Set: Well this feature basically goes behind the scenes at the cast and crew during their time filming the movie. The title of the feature is pretty self-explanatory as it tells you exactly what this is all about - it's the gang of LARRY CROWNE all having fun on set... Yay!
FINAL DIAGNOSIS
If youre a big fan of Julia Roberts or Tom Hanks, go forth and check out this movie, but if like me it could go either way, then steer clear. It might be a good mindless flick for a rental, but again, unless youre a huge fan, this movie doesnt exactly scream ADD ME TO YOUR COLLECTION!
