WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
Isabel (Kate Hudson) goes to visit her sister Roxy (Naomi Watts) in Paris and when she arrives, finds out that her sibling has just been abandoned by her husband and is heartbroken. A divorce ensues, French-style of course, and many adventures and twists as well. This film has a great cast, including the ever-fabulous Hermes Kelly bag which has a small, but significant, role here as well.
IS IT A GOOD MOVIE?
This was not your typical romantic comedy as it was not very funny to begin with. I cant recall any "ha-ha" moments during which I laughed, or even smirked. It is not a comedy at all, if you ask me. In fact, it gets quite disturbing towards the end. It has a twist (the disturbing part), some unanswered questions for which we eventually get answers and a slice of life in the French way, in my view. Divorce plays a role in this picture, for sure, but mostly it focuses on men and women, and the relationships between them. It made me think, and it kept me somewhat interested throughout.

The acting by a talented cast consisting of, among others, Leslie Caron, Matthew Modine, Glenn Close, Stockard Channing, Bebe Neuwirth, Stephen Fry, and a slew of French actors make this enjoyable as well. Since it deals with relationships, this might easily qualify as a "chick flick". The Glenn Close character, in particular, plays the older, wiser woman whos been around the block and imparts her relationship wisdom to a younger woman, Kate Hudsons character Isabel. Isabel, in turn, falls for a French man while in Paris and receives as a very extravagant gift, the infamous Hermes Kelly bag from him, in red crocodile no less. The ending did let me down somewhat, but I was honestly expecting a pretty horrid film and was pleasantly surprised that I quite enjoyed the story-line and acting. The Parisian scenery didnt hurt either. That said, It is not a fast paced film and features a few boring scenes. And that bag, what can I say?
THE EXTRAS
None.
FINAL DIAGNOSIS
There are no extra features on this DVD and that was a bit of a let-down. That said, I did not think the film was as horrible as people had told me. On the other hand, it wasnt amazing either. Without this great cast, it likely would have suffered way more, the talent was the films saving grace. I would therefore say this is a DVD of very average proportions, worth seeing once, but nothing to write home about. If you like Naomi Watts and Kate Hudson, their performances are very good, so you might want to own it, just for them.
