WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
The series revolves around the complicated world of Don Draper, the biggest ad man (and ladies' man) in the business, and his colleagues at the Sterling Cooper Advertising Agency. As Don makes the plays in the boardroom and the bedroom, he struggles to stay a step ahead of the rapidly changing times and the young executives nipping at his heels.
IS IT A GOOD MOVIE?

In the past, the seasons to me have primarily focused on Don Draper. The show has followed his life, his job, his family and the consequences of his actions. The fifth season of MAD MEN takes a dark turn and paints us a grim picture. However, it doesnít just paint a grim picture for Don, in fact, this season seemingly boasts the best year for Donís personal life yet. The rest of the cast takes on the darkness in MAD MEN SEASON 5 and while the vibe of this season is definitely a tad on the depressing side, I feel like the show prior to this season has been building up to these moments.

MAD MEN is one of those shows that I feel works better as an entire series. I mean that in the sense that it works better to watch all at once. Not too many episodes stick out on their own like episodes from other shows, like Doctor Who, in my opinion. Of course, Doctor Who and MAD MEN arenít exactly comparable in style, so thatís a hard statement to make, but as someone who has watched the series by the episode and by the season, itís much more enjoyable in lump sums.

If youíve been a fan of MAD MEN from the start, the fifth season delivers everything you could possibly want and more. A lot of people were in withdrawal from the series after a long hiatus and I guess the showrunners felt that they needed to win people back with a seriously epic season. They succeeded with that and although itís so very dark, it still manages to hold onto everything that people liked about the show to begin with.

To me, MAD MEN hasnít always been the greatest show in the world. A lot of the show can be really dry, but the reason Iíve kept with it over the years is because of the incredible character development in the series. You hate almost all of the characters and yet at the same time you love them too. They donít stay the same every season, the decisions that they make affect them and change them and the writers of the series take this into consideration every time that character is on the screen. This season really demonstrates that and puts everything weíve come to know about these characters to the test in both rewarding and heartbreaking ways.

Newsweek Magazine Digital Gallery: Another feature that pretty well sums itself up in the title. This feature shows a series of covers that tell us about the top news stories from around the world at the time that MAD MEN SEASON 5 takes placeÖ 1966.

Commentaries: And last but not least, there are a series of commentaries that accompany MAD MEN SEASON 5.

FINAL DIAGNOSIS
Without giving anything away, I loved how they left off this season. It leads me to believe that the Don Draper weíve grown to both love and hate will be returning in full force for the sixth season. MAD MEN SEASON 5 is most definitely worth picking up for the fan of the AMC series.
