This four disk set is a wet dream come true for any Habs fan and for the uninitiated who wants to gain knowledge as to the glorious legacy that is the Montréal Canadiens. Here’s what’s in store for yall! By way of stock footage and interviews, Disk 1 basically acted as a history lesson in terms of the Habs aka The Montréal Canadiens. Where they originated, how they strived forward through the ever changing years and how they became the team that they are now. In English (there’s a French option), the documentary was narrated by no other than Hollywood star and Habs connoisseur Viggo Mortensen. It was a surprise and pleasure to hear this dude do his thing on this set.
Disk 2 took an in depth look at the many Stanley Cups that the club won. I’m, talking 24 vignettes filled with a myriad of facts that will jack your Habs knowledge to expert. Disk 3 focused primarily on the 1876-77 club who went on to win the cup. It also explored the many dynasties that blessed the Habs over the years. The question of who was the Habs greatest nemesis was addressed as well (The Bruins and the Leafs in my book). Finally Disk 4 took a look at the men behind the sticks, the beatings and the hard work, the gents who defined the Montreal Canadiens we know and some of us love today. All four disks were blessed with all kinds of stock footage and mucho interviews with then heroes and now….well…heroes. Jacques Demers, Saiku Koivu, Guy Carbonneau, Guy Lafleur, Jean Beliveau and more…all on hand to pitch in as to the story of the most famous sports franchise ever created.
To say that this set was well put together is an understatement. Informative and slickly produced, all Habs fan should be happy like pigs in shite with this sucka. Newbies should be grateful as well; to get access to so much info on the club in such an easy way is a godsent. Sure the set ignored some of the bleaker moments of the club’s history, so it was selective as to what it covered. But at the same time, it’s the 100th Anniversary yo, I can understand how the good times are more important than the bad or/and embarrassing ones. On the whole this set is a MUST for any Montreal Canadiens fan. Perfect Christmas stocking material! GO HABS GO!
