WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
Ten years after a tragic mining accident in which dozens of people were brutally murdered, a copycat (or is it?) killer is on the loose to finish what was started.
IS IT A GOOD MOVIE?
As Iíve said in many reviews, sometimes a movie sets out to fulfill a particular goal and those movies sometimes have to be judged solely on how well they satisfy that goal. In this case, MY BLOODY VALENTINE set out to give a bunch of cheap scares via 3D and in my opinion, it succeeded in doing just that.

Like JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH, this is not a movie that should be viewed without 3D. Itís a simple premise, with simple characters. Watching it without the 3D effects exposes the filmís flaws and is barely tolerable to watch. In 3D, however, itís a completely different experience. Thankfully, the filmmakers donít waste time getting to the point of the film and we jump right into the killing and 3D gimmicks. But hey, thatís okay because violence, gratuitous nudity and cool 3D is what we paid for.

However, unlike Center of the Earth, there werenít enough 3D gimmicks. Itís hard to watch a movie in 3D in the first place, but if all youíre going to have them do is sit in a room and talk, why bother? But when the 3D came, it came with a vengeance and helped make up for the dry spells. Overall, I found myself bored when picks werenít flying through the air and giddy when they were. But in their defense, they had to have some kind of point to the film and the love triangle did well to further the mystery.

But like I said, the film has to be judged for what it is. This isnít THE EXORCIST, but it is a fun horror-3D film that is more than enjoyable. I had a good time watching it and even though it fell into some horror-clichť traps, I enjoyed watching them fall. I can also truthfully say that Iíve seen a sex scene in 3D and at the end of the day, thatís worth the price of admission by itself.
THE EXTRAS
Commentary with Patrick Lussier and Todd Farmer: I enjoyed how these guys went into details about the 3D effects and were really cool about pointing out some of the crew members. Thatís nice for all the below the line people working out there. Overall, this is a good track, even if they take the film too seriously at times.

Deep Inside My Bloody Valentine (7:18): This is your basic, generic featurette that briefly covers everything about the film. They donít spend much time on anything, so the information isnít worth the seven minute investment.

Gag Reel (2:16): Youíve probably seen this kind of gag reel before, where the actors laugh at mess-ups and it all feels like an inside joke.

Sex, Blood and Screams (5:47): This is also too short to matter to much, but it focuses on the death scenes and how some of them were filmed. Meh, this should have been combined with the other featurette to make at least one featurette worth the time.

Deleted and Extended Scenes (17:52): I could write how bad these were, but instead, Iíll give props to Lussier for cutting them. He realized these would have only slowed down the film and he was smart enough to get rid of them. None of these contain any horror or violence.

Alternate Ending (1:03): Few things piss me off more than when a feature is called ďalternate endingĒ and itís merely a reshoot of the original ending. Of course, thatís exactly what this is.

FINAL DIAGNOSIS
Iím not that big of a horror fan, but I enjoyed this film. It was campy enough to make it fun, but serious enough to prevent audiences from laughing at it. The 3D was used nicely, even if it wasnít used enough. Overall, I think most people will enjoy this.
