Newlyweds Nick & Jessica (S1 & S2)
DVD disk
WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
Young, talented pop singers Jessica Simpson and former boy-band member Nick Lachey star in their own reality show based on their newlywed years together. The cameras follow the twosome in their mansion, their studio, their trips and parties, inside their cars and out as we see them interacting as only two young newlyweds can interact, goof up and make up.
IS IT A GOOD MOVIE?
As I said in my review on the Newlyweds’ first season, I found it easy to like the shows presented in the DVD set mostly because Nick and Jessica are likable people, in general. I don’t listen to their music, I don’t follow their careers but like most of us, I can’t help but know about them because I’m a media baby and these two are prominently featured in the entertainment media, whether we like it or not. Furthermore, if the show didn’t get cancelled yet, it must mean people like to see it, and them. I found them to be genuinely good people, and as genuine as it can be on film, they have it. Their chemistry is undeniable, even if it isn’t always perfect between them.

I think it was a good idea to combine both season two and three together in a box set and these twenty episodes are both funny, and entertaining, but more so if you’re a fan of these two performers. My favorite show was “Puppy Madness” because it featured puppies and they were cute, all small animals are very cute. I also liked the shows entitled “The Anniversary” and “The Newlyweds Vacation”, which features another classic Jessica moment, because they entertained me more, partly because of the humor. The “Eye Surgery” show had many funny scenes, so I liked that one as well. I found I had a lot of not so favorite episodes too this time around, partly because I’m not a Jessica or Nick fan, and there’s only so much one can endure when you’re not a fan. If I had to pick, and someone forced me to though, I’d be a Jessica fan, I’d never be a Nick fan. But that’s just me. But all in all, seeing the two together is way better than having to watch twenty shows of these two solo. I mean picture it…
THE EXTRAS
Deleted Scenes: Way too long for my liking, almost twenty minutes of useless deleted scenes.

Nick & Jessica MTV Timeline: An interesting look back at how the timeline of Nick and Jessica, in their careers as seen on MTV, progressed. Carson Daly is featured as well as 98 Degrees.

Featurette: Happy Birthday Jessica, Love Nick: Nick surprises his wife on her 24th birthday when she performs in her hometown of Dallas, Texas. Approximately fifteen minutes.

Jessica Moments: Many classic Jessica moments, goofy, funny and in-between, are captured on tape for our viewing pleasure. Three minutes long.

Nick Moments: Classic Nick moments captured on film, worth checking out if you like the guy. Less than three minutes long.

Newlywed Promos: Older folk are re-creating classic Nick & Jessica moments in these spoof commercials for their new season. These seven promos are very funny and this is the best feature on here.

MTV Previews: For the DVD’s of “Newlyweds”, “Viva La Bam” and “Wildboyz”.
FINAL DIAGNOSIS
If you’re fan of this series, this is a good DVD set because all twenty episodes of seasons 2 and 3 are featured here along with a nice collection of special bonus features. I found about half the extras cool and worth checking out, but the other half were typical and didn’t do much for me. Even if you aren’t a fan, you might still enjoy this set because it offers some good times and mindless entertainment, if that’s what you’re seeking. All in all, not a bad choice for a rental.
