WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
A couple who married young feels the spark leave their relationship years later. Then when the wife gets in to a car accident, they have their passion, loyalty and love truly put to the test.

They fail.
IS IT A GOOD MOVIE?
“At least it’s not a Tyler Perry movie!” I exclaimed, trying to reassure myself after seeing I had received NOT EASILY BROKEN to review. That’s when I saw the critic’s blurb on the front cover: “‘It’s a powerful movie!’ – Tyler Perry.” F my life.

NOT EASILY BROKEN wants to be an adult look at marriage, with a powerful and moral message about the sanctity of the union. To do so, however, it utilizes every relationship cliché and stereotype in the book, so that instead of just feeling like feel-good BS, it comes off as entirely unauthentic as well. There’s also a Christian message that seems tacked on to try to tap in to that audience’s wallet, as opposed to coming intrinsically through the story itself.

Another key ingredient that doesn’t work is the main couple, who is possibly the least likable pair in cinematic history. How can you root for them to get back together when you know they need to have restraining orders placed on each other (and the mother in law)? The wife’s character is so annoying I was praying for her to get hurt. Thankfully, she was soon hit by a car. Sadly, her injuries were not life threatening. The husband is a little bit better, but the fact that he puts up with any of this makes me not like him. Also at one point he lets a kid get in a car with a drunk guy which seems pretty irresponsible. But hope is not lost. [SPOILERS] Apparently all it takes to save a marriage is for a child to die at a swim meet to put everything in to some horrible, depressing perspective. That’s the kind of emotionally manipulative garbage that happens in this movie. Yay love!

The only thing that made me laugh or even react to what was on the screen was comedian Kevin Hart who has a small supporting role. He’s funny cuz he’s so small!
THE EXTRAS
Making NOT EASILY BROKEN (13:44): Author and producer T.D. Jakes (who also has a cameo in the film), as well as other cast and crew members, attempt to defend why this was a movie worth making.

Deleted Scenes: You get five scenes and nothing new.

Previews.
FINAL DIAGNOSIS
My spirit and faith in humanity are NOT EASILY BROKEN, but this movie managed to do so. You know what kind of maudlin crap to expect when the DVD cover boasts acclaim from Tyler Perry and Dr. Phil.

Extra Tidbit: Bill Duke of PREDATOR and COMMANDO fame directed this movie.
