WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
A bunch of teenagers start to receive voice mails of their future selves dying only to find the messages coming to fruition.
IS IT A GOOD MOVIE?
If you think the premise for ONE MISSED CALL is enticingfeaturing its central horror theme around killer cell phone callskeep on the lookout for the sequel: ONE MISSED INSTANT MESSAGE. Or even more enticing, the prequel: ONE MISSED BEEPER PAGE. As I'm sure is clearly evident by now, the limitless potential for PG-13 technology-based ghost stories extends far beyond the realm of just Asian horror remakes, which on the same note, are far from running their course (yes, that would be sarcasm you sense there). Hollywood just can't stop cranking these babies out, no matter how much they're ripped apart by audiences and critics or how much their box office receipts decline (recent entries such as this, SHUTTER, PULSE, and THE EYE may help put a stop to that though).

Apparently audiences have become fed up with seeing the same exact routine play out in every film: some depressed but hot stone-faced woman mopes around while investigating a mysterious curse that causes repeated bizarre deaths, usually brought on by the tragic history of some family member with long black hair draped over their face. Also involved are any variations of the following: creepy ghost children, creepy sound effects, creepy houses, creepy music, and just about anything else that could be categorized as "creepy."

ONE MISSED CALL might just be the worst offender of the bunch though, having a storyline that would be better suited to parody the genre than play it straight-faced. What do you do when death comes calling? Quick, take out the battery! Cancel the phone service! Hang up! Hell, prank phone call that bitch! Do something, anything! ...just so long as it doesn't involve watching this movie.
THE EXTRAS
None.
FINAL DIAGNOSIS
Normally I'd recommend that you go out and rent the original J-horror flick, but to be honest, that one's pretty mediocre as well. So instead I'll simply ask that you take a good hard look at the state of this particular genre of horror films as it stands today and ask yourself: do you really want to watch another one?
