WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
Following up on ONG BAK 2, Tien (Tony Jaa) is now a prisoner of an evil king. Every bone in his body is broken, but luckily, some friendly villagers rescue him, restore is health and teach him a REALLY boring new way to fight. Zzzzzzzzz.
IS IT A GOOD MOVIE?
What the hell happened? When I saw ONG BAK 2 at TIFF, I thought it was the beeís knees. Granted, it wasnít great or even any better than a mediocre Shaw Bros., film- but damn it was fun. Surely ONG BAK 3 had to be more of the same as they were shot back-to-back. Wrong! Obviously Jaa, who reportedly went a little Col. Kurtz during the shooting, blew the entire budget on the second film. All we get here are flashbacks, endless montages, and a few really lame fight scenes.

For some reason, the villain that theyíve been building up for two films is dispatched by a new, boring villain while we get endless montages of Jaa meditating. It all gets wrapped up in a fight scene thatís the one of the worst Iíve ever seen, with Jaa trying a new Tai Chi form of Muay Thai. The fight is godawful, and completely devoid of the harsh edge Jaa brought to the fights in the first two films. I hated it.
THE EXTRAS
We get an HDnet special , some B-Roll a featurette on the (shitty) fight scenes, and some interviews .
FINAL DIAGNOSIS
Apparently, ONG BAK 3 is his swan song to acting, with him having joined a Buddhist ministry (shine on you crazy diamond!). In a way, itís depressing that ONG BAK 3 is the end of his career, but with Donnie Yen making a major resurgence, and Jing Wu coming along nicely, the void will be filled.

I'm Thai and I love the first Ong Bak. For me, Ong Bak 2 & 3 suck. They really are. Ong Bak 1 was phenomenal and very well received when it was first shown several years ago. Ong Bak 2 & 3, on the other hand, not well received.
