WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
For sisters Miranda, Natalie and Liz, that person is their upbeat brother Ned. Ned may be utterly lacking in common sense, but he is their brother, and after his girlfriend dumps him and boots him off the farm, his sisters come to his rescue.
IS IT A GOOD MOVIE?
Iíve been looking forward to seeing this movie all year, especially with the all-star cast of Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, Zooey Deschanel, Emily Mortimer, Rashida Jones and Steve Coogan. The previews made the film look hilarious and I couldnít wait to dive into a nice mindless comedy.

The truth is that this film isnít really a comedy though. I mean, it is and it isnít. It definitely has funny parts, especially with a lead man like Paul Rudd, but as a whole, I found the film to more on the dramatic side. I guess you could call it a dramedy. I have a feeling that there were more parts in the film that I was supposed to find hilarious, but I guess maybe I just felt that Ned was just kind of a sad character. Not in a pathetic kind of way, just that no matter what he seemed to do throughout the movie, it always just backfired in his face.

The cast all seemingly had fun making the film, as Iím sure most of them can relate to a family situation that was portrayed in the film, but overall, OUR IDIOT BROTHER was lacking. I canít quite put my finger on what was missing; maybe it was the laughs I thought I would have during the course of the film or maybe I thought I would feel something more for the characters. Either way, the film didnít quite live up to my expectations.
THE EXTRAS
Deleted and Extended Scenes: Typically when I see deleted and additional/extended scenes, I really feel that most of them are left out for a reason. Such wasnít the case for OUR IDIOT BROTHER. Almost every one of these scenes, I wish they had left in the film, because they really added to my experience with it. One of the scenes, to me, made a much better ending to the movie than the one they actually went with.

Making Of Our Idiot Brother: This was a pretty good little making of video. It was a bit short, but that can also be nice when it come to special features. Paul Rudd and the cast all talk about their roles in the film and discuss your typical ďMaking OfĒ sort of stuff. The writers and the directors discuss where the story came from and they go over the relatability of it.

Additionally, thereís a Feature Commentary with Director Jesse Peretz available for those who enjoy these.
FINAL DIAGNOSIS
I went into OUR IDIOT BROTHER ready to love it and openly embrace it. Unfortunately, while I did like the film, I didnít end up loving it. Itís definitely worth a single watch, but I personally, donít think that OUR IDIOT BROTHER is an absolute must-have for your collection.

Each to his own on this one. I LOVED this movie, and found the dynamics of the family perfectly tied together in the story. I love Paul's character, and though I do agree he came across sort of sad, overall, I just wanted to hug him the whole time. This movie makes me smile, and I imagine I will be looking forward to those times when I just NEED an Our Idiot Brother hour and a half
