WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
A man named Pootie Tang is the toast of the town. He dresses like he's still in the 70s, he makes movies, music albums, practices martial arts and loves the ladies (and the ladies love him right back). But one day, a giant corporation realizes that he is preventing kids from buying their unhealthy products, so they fool him into signing himself away and instead, use his persona to sell their products. But will Pootie Tang allow that to happen? Trust me, folks...it's even lamer than it sounds here.
IS IT A GOOD MOVIE?
In my humble opinion, the most important aspect in any comedic motion picture, before the casting, the directing, the soundtrack, the story, the length, the chemistry, has got to be the actual inclusion of comedy in the film. And strangely enough, that is the one thing that is seriously missing in this movie... the laughs, funny stuff, humor, the things that make you go "ha-ha". And what the hell is wrong with Chris Rock this year? First he stars in the extremely mediocre (and also quite unfunny) DOWN TO EARTH, and with this crappy flick, he decides to go even one step further, and produce the thing, while playing at least three different characters in the film on top of all that. Sadly, each character is less funny than the last and the film itself, never manages to get off the ground. The DVD box "claims" that the film runs for 81 minutes, but that's including the credits, so the film is really only about 70 minutes long. Seventy minutes long?? Since when do real studios release movies that are only 70 minutes long?? The sad part is that it's actually about 65 minutes longer than it should have been, since the premise of the film, the actual character of "Pootie Tang", is really no more interesting than any lame-ass final half hour sketch piece on "Saturday Night Live".

But as a motion picture, this thing completely blows! Everyone in the movie thinks that it's clever to say the name Pootie Tang over and over again (am I supposed to laugh?), the movie is shot more like a music video, the plot is incredibly inane, the characters include "hilarious" folks like Dirty Dee (who is actually a "dirty" guy) , the main character of Pootie Tang is made to talk like Eddie Murphy's Buckwheat character from the old SNL skits, but being as I didn't understand one word that the man was saying, I could really have cared less about him, the movie or anyone in the film who seemed to give a crap about him. The joke was "supposed" to be that Pootie Tang was this total hipster, but he's just plain uncharismatic, annoying and incomprehensible to the point that you just want to stop the movie and ask yourself why you rented this lame elongated sketch-piece in the first place. Chris Rock...you should be ashamed of yourself, dude. You're a funny guy in real life...pick some good scripts, dammit! This thing is horrible...watch it and cringe.
THE EXTRAS
Paramount did at least one thing right on their association with this movie, and that's to dump it onto the DVD market, like a girlfriend gone bad. This DVD includes the trailer of the movie and a music video entitled "Pootie Tangin" by 702. Basically, there are no "real" extras and between me and you, rightfully so!
FINAL DIAGNOSIS
This flick sucks from top to bottom. It was obviously meant to be "campy" and touch on a little bit of the 70s blaxploitation films, but all it does is embarrass itself with lame-ass characters spouting unfunny and uninspired dialogue, a stupid "plot" and Chris Rock showing the world that even he, could be extremely unhumorous at times (maybe it was meant to be watched "high"? I don't know...I still don't get it!). Whatever you do, stay away from this lame film, unless you're a huge fan of character actor Robert Vaughn, who is sadly the only good thing about this movie (and the whole "belt" thang, but that got old pretty quickly as well). Yes, I'll say it...this movie is Pootie Crap!
