Roast of Denis Leary
WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
Comedians of all shapes and colors (and sexual preferences) come together to participate in the flaming of Boston born and bred comic, Denis Leary.
IS IT A GOOD MOVIE?
As far as Roasts go, this is one of the funnier ones I’ve seen, despite the fact the emcee and Curb Your Enthusiasm tag along, Jeff Garlin, is breaking the cardinal rule of fat guys automatically being funny. Seriously, he is one of the unfunniest fat guys ever, which is fine since he’s only here to introduce people who are way funnier than he is. The guest of honor’s table was flanked by Keifer Sutherland and the always scrumptious looking Elizabeth Hurley sitting with a very gay looking European dude. Some of the roasters I’ve never heard of but were pretty funny. Conan O’Brien, Christopher Walken, Jon Stewart, Rene Russo with a strap on cock, Michael J. Fox (who totally pokes fun at his Parkinson’s disease) all sent in video clips. And none other than my hometown hero, Joe Mantegna walking away with the funniest line of the night, “Your material’s more dated than Shannon Doherty’s twat.” Funny because it’s true. Lot of coke remarks, which usually goes hand and uh, nose with comedians. Gina Gershon sings and generally continues to look hot. Most of the acts stayed on the subject of the shitty parts in movies Leary acts in so it got pretty repetitive and boring pretty quick. Again, funny because it's true.
Denis’ Rebuttal (Uncut): Self-explanatory. Denis goes down the line and gives it back to each roaster. Relates hilarious stories about Lenny Clark, Colin Quinn and Jeff Garlin. Drops more f-bombs. Not too much else.
Red Carpet Outtakes: Comedian Patrice O’Neal works the red carpet as American Idol winner Ruben Studdard, interrupting an interview with Mario Cantone to talk on his cell phone and forcing a mic into the hand of the hilarious/annoying Gilbert Gottfried.
Doctor Dre & Ed Lover Movie Segment (Uncut): An extended clip of Doctor Dre and Ed Lover’s unfunny segment.
Patrice O’Neal as Ruben Studdard, Un-aired footage: In character again, Patrice “sings” a ditty about…well, nothing really for Leary and the rest of the crowd. Kind of funny.
Comedy Central Quickies: Here we get a couple shorts from Comedy Central’s hit shows, Crank Yankers, South Park and Chappelle’s Show. Good stuff, but you’re likely to have already seen it.
If you liked this when it originally aired on Comedy Central, then chances are you’ll like the uncensored version even more, as it's filled with more f-bombs and vulgarity than a dinner with my in-laws, and that’s a lot. But it’s a rental; you’re not likely to watch this over and over again.
