WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
The story of Sara Johnson continues, as she once again follows her dream of being a ballet dancer. Oh, the excitement.
IS IT A GOOD MOVIE?
Within fifteen minutes of watching SAVE THE LAST DANCE 2, here's what I noticed the movie already had going against it:
  • It's a straight-to-DVD sequel.
  • Same character from the first, but a different actress.
  • Crappy production values.
  • Poor direction.
  • Practically the first movie over again.
  • Irritating characters.
  • Predictable.
  • Boring.
  • Stupid.
  • Irritating.
  • Monotonous.
...as well as everything else you probably could've guessed anyway. It's nothing new. The movie's exactly what you'd expect it to be - an unoriginal MTV-produced grab at some cash, with little attempt put into actually making a quality production. Those that have no interest in the film won't give it a second look, and the people whose interest are peaked simply by the title will probably get exactly what they're hoping for. Or at least they should, seeing as how this film delivers exactly what's promised: a cheap replica of the first. There's a shallow plot (a harsh teacher makes life hard for our struggling hero, but she rises above and proves herself... yay!), a stale love story (a suave black guy charms our hero with his mad hip-hop skills and sensitive nature - naturally, he bones her), and a combination of ballet and hip-hop ("Oh snap, foo! That is some whacked-out shit!"). *sigh* Fans of the first film should be thrilled.

Not that the movie's all bad. Here's what it has going for it:
  • The lead actress is hot.
And... yeah. That's it. Enjoy.
THE EXTRAS
Thankfully, I was spared from having to sit through a lot of special features.

On Their Toes: The Cast & Crew of "Save the Last Dance 2" (13:24): This is your standard fluff promotional piece, complete with an utter lack of information and an interest factor of "zero". Also included are two Trailers, for both this film and the original.
FINAL DIAGNOSIS
I didn't like the first SAVE THE LAST DANCE, so it's no surprise I didn't like this one. It's also no surprise that even if I did like the first one, I probably still wouldn't like this one. In fact, the only people who probably will like this sequel are the ones who get excited upon hearing about its existence. If you're not one of those people, you can join me in groaning at yet another crappy DTV sequel.
