WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
Itís a spoof of movies like THE RING, 8 MILE and SIGNS. Basically, a videotape makes it way through a group of friends and then they have to save the world from aliens. OK, you got me, it doesnít have a plot.
IS IT A GOOD MOVIE?
Itís hard to label any spoof ďgoodĒ, so the question is whether or not the movie makes you laugh. Humor, however, is in the eye of the beholder. In this case, I would have to say SCARY MOVIE 3.5 falls short of being a humorous movie. In its 85 minute runtime, I would guess there were about 175 attempts at humor and I laughed three times. I donít consider that a good percentage. The jokes are old, the actors seemed bored and the series creators seem to be getting desperate at this point.

I should also say that I wasnít a huge fan of the original SCARY MOVIE, but I at least conceded that it attempted to be different. The second one had moments that made me laugh out loud but all I could muster for this one is a few chuckles. One thing that hurt the movie was the original PG-13 rating. The first two were rated R for their gross out humor and shock value. This one is void of everything that made the originals mildly funny, except of course Anna Faris. The well for this ďfranchiseĒ has dried up and itís just a pale comparison to its predecessors.

Maybe Iím being too hard on it and Iím sounding pretentious. I understand that spoofs are nothing but 80 minutes of cheap laughs but the point is they make you laugh. I enjoyed HOT SHOTS, NAKED GUN, AIRPLANE and of course SPACEBALLS because they offered some original takes on old jokes. SCARY MOVIE 3.5 takes jokes from all those, puts them into a modern setting and expects you to laughÖagain. For those of you that havenít seen the aforementioned movies, you might enjoy this one.

Another thing that should be pointed out is the inclusion of Leslie Nielson and David Zucker from the NAKED GUN movies because they made this feel like another NAKED GUN. The difference is that the NAKED GUN movies were funny.
THE EXTRAS
There are only a handful of differences between this edition and SCARY MOVIE 3. Despite their attempts at justifying the ďunratedĒ rating, I didnít see anything that would garner this movie an R rating as opposed to the original PG-13.

Commentary with director David Zucker, producer Robert K Weiss and writers Craid Mazin and Pat Proft: I found this track to be more amusing then the normal audio track. Robert K Weiss is a funny guy and he keeps it rolling with the others. They also talk about why this one was unrated and what was different. If you like commentaries and you have the time, this one wonít disappoint.

Deleted scenes (20:08): None of these were great, but I did laugh at the baby oil spill scene. I think the movie wouldíve been better with more scenes like this. Overall, they were disappointing.

Outtakes and bloopers (3:58): There had to have been funnier outtakes then this. That is to say, these werenít very funny.

Making Scary Movie 3 (23:19): This is a standard look at the making of SCARY MOVIE 3 with normal praising from the cast and excitement from the director and producer.

Making Scary Movie 3ÖFor Real (4:53): This is the best thing on the disc. Itís some impromptu jokes from the cast and crew talking about making the movie. Iím not sure, but I think I actually like Anna Faris.

Alternate Ending (15:28): Youíve heard this before, but I like this ending better. It offers up a couple of laughs, which is more than the original ending.

Behind the scenes of the alternate ending (4:08): This is a decent look as to how much work was put into an ending that never made it to the theater.
FINAL DIAGNOSIS
I would recommend any of the original spoof movies that I mentioned if youíre looking for cheap laughs at the expense of famous movies. However, the extras are funny and if you have the time, they make for some good laughs.
