WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
It’s the sixth and final season of this extremely popular HBO series (read my season 5 review here) and the first 12 episodes have the female foursome still searching for love and happiness in the greatest city in the world: New York. All four women have different personalities, hopes and dreams, and they need one another all the more now as their futures are finally starting to become very clear…
IS IT A GOOD MOVIE?
As I understand it, there are only 8 episodes remaining to be released on DVD so naturally a lot of things are starting to gel for the ladies in the first 12 episodes to this final season, especially for Charlotte and Miranda. Charlotte starts her Judaism “training” so she can have a shot at a second marriage (and she hopes a baby too) and Miranda finally begins to lovingly accept her little tot as she comes to the surprising conclusion that she’s in love with Steve, who has since found a cute little girlfriend of his own. While she waits to work up enough courage to tell him, she hooks up with the very cool Blair Underwood, who plays a sports doctor who’s recently moved into her building.

The cool cameos continue as Carrie continues to date Berger (the great Ron Livingston) and also finds time in the 12 shows to see David Duchovny (a great man in his own right) and everybody’s favorite Soviet defector/ballet dancer Mikhail Baryshnikov. Chris Noth, once again, manages to finagle his way into her life, confusing Carrie as always and bringing a breath of fresh air to the show every time he pops up. Samantha is as sexually charged and creative as she’s always been, but finds her heart opening a tiny bit with an unlikely romance with a very likeable and charming waiter/actor she meets in a restaurant one night. My favorite part of the show is, as always, the beautiful city of New York, which looks even better and more inviting each and every episode. I have no complaints, once again with this show, it rolls along even smoother than the shortened season 5, bringing many laughs, poignant & romantic moments and little love-life lessons every episode. Even the horrid puns aren’t getting on my nerves anymore…
THE EXTRAS
Audio Commentaries: Episodes 1, 2, 10 and 12 all have a commentary track by Michael Patrick King, one of the writers/directors of the show. The commentary on this final season is all the more interesting given the fact that it is the end of the series. So, King gets into all that the writers had planned for the ladies and the direction in which they wanted them and the show to head as they tried to wrap up their lives in the final 20 episodes. A lot of good insight and thoughts on the show on here…

The Museum of TV and Radio Seminar Series – Sex and the City (32 minutes) : The television curator for the museum sits down with Michael Patrick King and the four ladies to discuss the show's evolution and impact over the years. This is a nice little addition to have for the final season as it lets the four actresses expand on the show and the difference it’s made in their lives.
FINAL DIAGNOSIS
If you’ve gone through the first five seasons already, there’s no reason to stop now. The first part of season 6 is superior to the previous season and really leaves you anticipating the fate that awaits the foursome in the final 8 episodes - ever. I don’t have HBO, so I’ll have to wait for the release of PART II just like the rest of you to see what happens. Until then, this a solid rental or purchase for any fan of show…
