WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
A sexually repressed and reserved woman moves into a new apartment only to find that a video game nerd is watching not only her but the entire complex. Oh, and there females getting killed here and there. No, this is not my life story…it’s worse! Is the nerd the killer? Once again, Stone takes it all off in this unnecessary BASIC INSTINCT wannabe.
IS IT A GOOD MOVIE?
The premise for this film kicks ass. A hacker/video game programmer voyeuristically watches everything and everyone in his apartment complex. Not only this, but he does good deeds and screws Sharon Stone’s brains out! How cool would that be? No, I didn’t buy that either. Throw in a lot of cheesy nothingness and an un-cool Tom Berenger as the obvious killer and you have a whole lot of nothing. Unlike BASIC INSTINCT the sex scenes weren’t steamy, there was no tension, and the TRUE Stone wasn’t unleashed. Damn!
I did buy William Baldwin as a computer geek that never left his room and just reveled in his “power” of watching everybody. For some reason, I kept thinking about HACKERS which is a favorite of mine (yes I know it’s cheese too) but liking that a whole lot more than this idiotic fare. The movie is just too cheap, like something on late night Cinemax and don’t even get me started on the film’s ending. The one good thing to come out of this whole affair is the badass accompanying music. Some great 90’s shite. That, and I wouldn’t mind hitting the Stone back in the day.
Like the movie, the DVD for SLIVER is bare bones. Crap movie, crap title, crap DVD, and William Baldwin’s ass. Not exactly my idea of a good time. Cool soundtrack though.
Props 2 > Sharon Stone for baring it all! (Puberty yo) and Howard Shore for his kick ass scores over the years.
Final Diagnosis >> Avoid the DVD but pick up the Soundtrack
