Unfortunately, the film itself is not very good. It makes a lot of common mistakes found in comedies that donít have much of a script. For example, there are a lot of instances where the jokeís over, but they keep the camera rolling even though nothing is going on. In the same vein, they have a lot of jokes that last too long. The concept of the film is simple enough, so itís hard to blame them too much. Thereís only so much you can do with a stoned girl trying to make it through the day.
I will say however, that one scene had me rolling on the floor laughing hysterically. Thereís a moment where she gives this big monologue about Marxism and then they show the whole scene again, this time with what she actually said and not what she wanted to say. It may not sound like much, but trust me, it was great. SMILEY FACE had some other moments like that where a simple idea was funny because Anna Faris was high. I also liked the brief appearance of Jayma Mays, who gave her best Anna Faris impersonation in EPIC MOVIE.
And since the camera is focused on Anna Faris for nearly the entire 86 minute runtime, itís only fair to judge whether or not she was a convincing stoner. In my opinion, she was more than convincing and I never questioned whether or not she was high. However, keep in mind that Iíve been a big fan of Annaís for a while now. She makes the film bearable and even manages to make it funny at times.
