WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
Comedy Central's foulmouthed South Park brats are back for season three. Once again Cartman, Stan, Kyle and the forever tormented Kenny share some very funny and vulgar antics involving everything from succubi to spontaneous combustion to sexual harassment and anything else that might offend any conservative parent out there. There are 17 episodes contained on this 3-disc set.
IS IT A GOOD MOVIE?
In terms of hilarity, you cannot get much funnier than South Park. I laughed out loud at least once in each episode. The addition of guest voice-overs was an added bonus in this set, like guest star Jennifer Aniston showing us the ugly side of the rainforest, for example, or the recasting of Korn as the Mystery Inc. gang in a Scooby-Doo spoof. If you're looking for politically correct humor, this show is obviously not for you and that's exactly what I most like about it. Also, whenever I see cute, small children using foul language and being just plain mixed up about stuff in life because they are still too little to understand (resurrection and erection for example), I think it is the funniest/cutest thing in the world and more reason why this series should be worshipped in the comedy world.

What I would give to be inside Trey and Matt’s brains. Consider their genius combined with fun animation and quality writing and you get this show. Included in this 3 disc set is the “Meteor Shower Party” trilogy, three episodes that unfold over the course of one night, each focusing on a different kid, and each of which was very funny. That said, my favorite episode was “Are You There God, It’s Me Jesus” just because the concept of Jesus and what He was going through was hilarious and the title was great (as a child, I read the Judy Blume book they were spoofing). If you want to know what God looks like in these guys’ twisted imaginations, watch that episode. It would be too long to explain why I loved every single episode, but suffice it to say that every episode is funny as Hell in my book. That has always been South Park’s strength: the excellent writing.
THE EXTRAS
The third season of South Park has only one bonus feature, that being the mini-commentary for each episode by the creators. They last for around 5 minutes each as Matt and Trey provide us with behind the scenes info on each episode. These commentary-mini’s (as the creators call them) are informative and funny and they don’t go on and on, which is what I liked about them. I am sure that sonme SP fans will want longer commentaries, but I say a 5-minute commentary is better than none at all, and I personally think it would be quite boring to talk throughout a whole episode, detailing frame-for-frame how and why they did this and that, etc... That said, they could have included an extra feature or two on the DVD set just because it is meager, to say the least.
FINAL DIAGNOSIS
For those of you out there who really enjoy extra features on your DVDs, prepare to be disappointed with this third installment of the popular series. If, however, you are simply looking to get the series on DVD so that you can give away all your old South Park VHS tapes to your friends (never throw away humor, always give it away or better yet share it with others), then as a true SP fan, you owe it to yourself to get this season as well as all previous and future seasons too. Here’s a little known fact: I received a Cartman doll a few Christmases ago from the man himself, JoBlo. He is such a cool brother.
