WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
A high-school loser obsessed with magic is accidentally killed during a prank, only to come back from the dead hotter than ever... and with a hunger for revenge.
IS IT A GOOD MOVIE?
Concerning all the negative aspects of a cheesy horror flick, TAMARA delivered pretty much what I expected... terrible acting, laughable dialogue, a rehashed premise, lousy characters, etc. But then when it finally came to delivering the goods (i.e. gore and nudity), it left me drier than a box of Kotex maxi pads. Talk about a cop-out! There's only one solid death in the film, and not only is it the first one, it's given to a character in the film that didn't do squat. My initial response to the death was, "Woah... If that's how they kill off the innocent kid, I can't imagine what sick and twisted ways the real assholes are going to get butchered." But alas, no more great deaths were to be found, with the movie focusing more on Tamara using her witchcraft to take control of people's minds. Trust me, it sounds a lot cooler than it really is.

My main beef with TAMARA isn't that it's a lame teen horror flick with a straight-to-DVD presence, it's that the movie gives off major vibes of "been there, done that". As I watched it, several movies came to mind - CARRIE, I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER, MAY, THE CRAFT, etc. If you take all of those flicks, mix about five other non-horror flicks like SHE'S ALL THAT and JAWBREAKER, and you'll have TAMARA... sans the high enjoyment-factor that most of those movies deliver. My advice to all the horror lovers out there is to only rent this when you're going to be playing drinking games all night with some buds. That way, you can load up on booze everytime Tamara makes a lame pun like, "I almost died getting here".
THE EXTRAS
This bare-bones DVD contains merely an Audio Commentary featuring the writer and director, and a couple of Previews.
FINAL DIAGNOSIS
If you keep your hopes low, and just wish to be mildly entertained whilst intoxicated, TAMARA will probably do the trick for you. It has a few scenes of gore and a hot chick strutting around in a slutty outfit for most of the film. Don't expect any more than that, or you'll be majorly unsatisfied when the credits roll, as I was. I don't mind schlocky teen horror flicks in the least... I just expect a slightly better payoff than one great death.
