WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
Surprisingly based on true events, this flick follows a bunch of not so bright teens as they track celebrities via the internet so they can rob their empty homeswhich happen to be disturbingly lacking in security.
IS IT A GOOD MOVIE?
This film (for many reasons) left me scratching my head in confusion, especially considering its based on true events. I have a hard time believing celebrities are so damn careless with their houses. In a film that centers around a bunch of yuppie kids (who arent terribly bright) trolling the internet for celebrity addresses in hopes of robbing them while theyre away, I found it downright ridiculous that every house they scoped out had at least one door or window open for them to get inwith the exception of Paris Hiltons house. She was nice enough to leave her keys under the front door mat. Shouldnt high profile celebrities like Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan and Orlando Bloom have high profile security systems? Sigh. This is one of many problems I had with THE BLING RING.

Asinine stupidity aside, the characters werent any better. Rebecca was interesting, but I guess I liked her because she gave new kid on the block, Marc, an easy transition into his new schoolfor all the good it ended up doing him. Now these two are the masterminds behind getting the robberies started, but my biggest question is, why let so many other peeps in on the action? Okay, we covered that theyre stupid as hell, and maybe I get letting a couple other people from their circle in, but when you start showcasing it at clubs saying I just came from Paris house, and then bringing acquaintances along for the ride (not to mention hitting the same place multiple times), we have a problem. Case in point, drinking and partying in Paris bar and leaving a mess of spilt booze everywhere. I mean sure, Paris doesnt look like a rocket scientist or anything, but Im sure shed notice something like that.

Id like to say THE BLING RING tries to be something different and cool, but I cant. Its lazy, uninspired and just plain boring. Theres no substance here whatsoever. The relationships between these so called friends is pathetic, especially when it rounds out at the end of the film with everyone turning on one another in hopes of escaping blame (and jail time). That doesnt work out so well for any of them, least of all our main duo, Rebecca and Marc. The weirdest aspect of the film comes from Emma Watsons Nicki, one of those plastic, useless, morons trying to get by on the fact that shes hot, making whatever comes out of her mouth matter. The only thing I wanted to see come out of her mouth was my fist after it punched a hole through her face. I get where they were going with her whole angle, but its as unconvincing as it is annoying and only served to whittle away at my patience.
THE EXTRAS
Making The Bling Ring: On set with Sofia, the cast and crew: Ouch. We get Emma Watson overacting while everyone stands around and watches. Youll never make it through these twenty minutes so dont even bother trying.

Behind the Real Bling Ring: This is remotely interesting. Honestly, they should have just made this into a straight up documentary film and I think it wouldve done much better.

Scene of the crime with Paris Hilton: A wake up for poor Paris. That said, she doesnt seem overly distraught about the whole thing. Then again, its just pocket change to her.

Previews: Theres a theatrical trailer, a bunch of other previews as well as an Ultraviolet Digital Copy of the film.
FINAL DIAGNOSIS
This flick was doomed from Jump Streep as far as Im concerned. The concept was barely interesting, feeling more like something youd read in tabloid trash magazines or see on TMZ. Nothing about it felt rewarding or entertaining in the least, so my advice would be to avoid this baby and move on.

Only watched it because of my love for Lost In Translation, but every movie of Sofia's after it has been boring and not good at all.

As a working class joe I fail to understand these people so I thought the film was dreadful. In fact it was one of the rare occasions I wanted to walk out of the theater.

I generally agree with this review of the film. The Bling Ring doesnt so much analyse the obsession with celebrity in the age of social media and the reckless impulses of privileged youth so much as it waves it in front of the audience. The fascination with Bonnie and Clyde-type stories is something thats mentioned in the film, and young people doing dangerous things-type flicks such as Natural Born Killers might come to mind. Thing is, The Bling Ring is to Natural Born Killers what a

Sure, the movies nice to look at and isnt shallow and vapid in that mass-produced bubblegum pop way but at the end of the day, it still is shallow and vapid.
