WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
Based on one of the most well-documented hauntings in history, the CONJURING 2 follows the Enfield Poltergeist case. Set in London, the case involves the demonic possession of a young girl (Madison Wolfe) and its effect on her family. Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) return for their hardest job yet.
IS IT A GOOD MOVIE?
THE CONJURING 2, directed by mastermind James Wan, is one of the scariest movies I have seen in a long time and a worthy followup sequel to THE CONJURING. The franchise has solidified itself as a reliably frightening treat to look forward to every few years, and one that will make you think twice when getting ready for bed. From the jump scares to that beyond creepy nun, I'll admit I had a difficult time shutting my eyes. And you better believe I kept an extra eye on my TV remote.

All of the performances in the movie are fantastic, especially Madison Wolfe’s Janet, who conquers the difficult task of demonic possession with a performance that would make Linda Blair proud. And although Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga come into the film a bit later than I expected, they levitate... I mean, elevate, the source material. Both actors have such incredible chemistry; I'm glad Wan focused more on their relationship, especially the effect this taxing job has on them emotionally. Not to mention, Wilson also gives a fantastic performance of Elvis’ “I Can’t Help Falling In Love With You”. Be still my heart.

From the first shot of the film, Wan puts you right in the middle of the action, constantly moving the camera around in his signature, whimsical style that makes you feel like you are being haunted along with the main characters. But within all of the scares and screaming, what I like most about the movie is that at its center, it is a love story between a husband and wife and a mother and her children. It is this special attention to the human element of horror films, that makes Wan’s films stand out and leaves me counting down the days until inevitable THE CONJURING 3. Word on the street is it involves the Werewolf Demon of London case.
THE EXTRAS
Crafting THE CONJURING 2: Interviews with James Wan and the cast and crew, with behind the scenes footage of the production. They talk about the challenges of making a sequel to a successful film, the London setting, and how to make new imagery and story structure in a horror film.

The Enfield Poltergeist: Living The Horror: This was by far my favorite special feature. It contains real information about the Enfield story, as well as new interviews with the real Hodgson sisters, Janet and Margaret. The sisters discuss their time being haunted in the house, their memories of the Warrens, and go to the set of the film, where they are reunited with Lorraine Warren herself!

Creating Crooked: A look at the development of one of the film's baddies, The Crooked Man. They explore the makeup and costuming of the character, and we get to meet the actor, Javier Botet, that played him. Side note: Until this feature, I thought it was all CGI.

THE CONJURING 2: Hollywood's Haunted Stage: This feature follows Warner Bros. security guard and paranormal investigator, Johnny Matook, as he explores one of Hollywood's most famous haunted sets, stage 4... which just so happens to be where THE CONJURING 2 was shot. They go through the sets of the movie trying to find an actual ghost. Spoiler alert: Nothing happens and it's a bit silly.

The Sounds of Scares: A focus on how composer Joseph Bishara and his team scored the movie.

Deleted Scenes: Almost 7 minutes of additional footage. Most features additional hijinks from the ghost, press coverage of the haunting, and bullying from kids in the town.
FINAL DIAGNOSIS
THE CONJURING 2 certainly passes the “turn every light on in my apartment when I get home” test. But what I really appreciated was Wan made the story seem instantly real and believable through top-notch character development. The Blu-Ray extras, especially the look at the actual story behind the haunting featuring the real Hodgson sisters, are a can't miss for fans!
