WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
An ancient curse turns Jessica, a mean, shallow high-school prom queen (McAdams) into a sleazy-looking, unkempt two-bit lowlife (Schneider). As she struggles to accept the fact that her looks can't help her anymore, Jessica discovers that she's been taking her good fortune for granted.
IS IT A GOOD MOVIE?
I didn't expect much from this film and things only got worse about 10 minutes in as Adam Sandler made yet another highly unfunny cameo. I knew then and there that things had the potential to come to a very bad end. Fortunately for everyone involved though, Sandler quickly disappeared and the film wasn't the gross-out monstrosity I expected it to be. Make no mistakes though: Rob Schneider is a one-trick pony and this is a one-joke film. Don't go looking for depth, don't go looking for meaning, just sit back and watch the funny man make funny faces. Not to be too hard though, I'd be lying if I said that I didn't laugh out loud at least once or twice. The scene in which man-Jessica and her girlfriends hit a nightclub was downright hilarious.

Most of the fun comes courtesy of the obvious "fish-out-of-water" situation that begins (and ends) when hottie McAdams wakes up and sees Schneider in the mirror. Having to convince her friends that it's really her, having to work things out with her boyfriend and family and all the while looking for... well... herself in order to break the curse and retrieve her own body leads into various scenarios in which she gets slapped, punched, bruised as she also gets used to carrying and using the new "equipment" that comes with manhood. Schneider does a great job of adopting the mannerisms of a teenage girl which makes what happens to him that much more effective. Unfortunately for Bobby though, the show pretty much gets swiped from under his feet by the sweet performance of Anna Faris as Jessica's best friend April. Faris puts together some cuteness, some humor and even throws in some slapstick in order to become the most entertaining person on screen. Kudos to her and to some other funny youngsters, most of whom were reminiscent of the gang from CLUELESS.

All in all, THE HOT CHICK is a pretty basic and vapid comedy that will give you a handful of laughs and let you forget all about it seconds after you shut off your player. Director Tom Brady did a good job of keeping most of the gags tasteful and even though there's a fair amount of both flatulence and urine to go around, it doesn't get out of hand or take the movie over. Nothing fantastic here but I've seen worse and considering that Adam Sandler was involved, albeit for only a few minutes (he's also one of the executive producers), the ship didn't go down in a forest of flames.
THE EXTRAS
Fans of deleted scenes will definitely get their fill here with no less than 14 of them as well as an alternate ending. Ranging in length and meaning, the scenes are definitely nothing to go insane about, but depending on your thoughts on the film itself, you'll appreciate them accordingly. Once you're done with those, you can move on to the "Hot Chick Yearbook" which is really nothing more than five different collections of on-set footage with limited commentary by stars and crewmembers. The only one that's really worthwhile here is the one with all the stunts and slapstick stuff on it. I hadn't realized how violent the film was until I saw all of these!

You can also re-watch the movie while listening to the full length audio commentary with director Tom Brady. Like I mentioned above, Brady did a pretty good job with what he had and he sounds like a pleasant enough guy. His commentary track is well populated with tidbits on the shoot, the film and the stars. Last up is a Zed music video for a song called "Starlight". I've never heard of these cats, but it wasn't too bad. The video itself contains clips from the film as well as appearances by some cast members including Schneider.
FINAL DIAGNOSIS
It's pretty easy to slot this film up as a potential rental. I got a few laughs out of it, but I doubt I'll be checking it out again and it's really too generic to include in a permanent collection unless you're working on your own Rob Schneider compilation. I don't personally find him as hilarious as some, but I'm still grateful that at least he's not Chris Kattan.
