WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) is forced to compete in a deathly competition that pits children from 12 districts against each other until only one winner remains. But even after she and her friend-turned-love interest Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) are victors, their battle against the evil Capital is not over.
IS IT A GOOD MOVIE?
Fans of THE HUNGER GAMES series, I'm mostly talking to you. We at JoBlo have already reviewed the previous Blu-ray releases of the HUNGER GAMES series. So as a huge fan of the franchise myself, I wanted to gear this review of the new box set towards those of us that already have the previous Blu-ray releases and are wondering whether we should fork over the money for this complete series. After all, it promises new bonus content and I am always a sucker for new featurettes from my favorite movies. Plus, the Blu-ray collector in me can't resist the temptation of a good box set. Though, one issue is the Blu-ray set is DVD-sized, a bit of an annoyance for the uniformity of my collection, maybe others aren't as sensitive to that sort of thing as I am.

Of course, this 4-movie box set for THE HUNGER GAMES features every moment of Katniss' journey from start to finish - THE HUNGER GAMES, CATCHING FIRE, MOCKINGJAY PART 1 and MOCKINGJAY PART 2. Additionally, each film comes with an Ultraviolet and iTunes digital copy. Off the bat, the packaging of the Blu-ray is really top-notch. The artwork inside is a beautiful blend of images we have seen from the franchise's promotional material throughout the years and there is an additional disc that contains the new special features.

For those wise fans that hadn't purchased the previous versions of HUNGER GAMES Blu-rays, knowing a comprehensive release like this was on the horizon, you are in for a real treat and should pick this release up immediately; you won't be disappointed. The older special features from previous editions are substantive, and are all combined for this edition. There are 2+ hour "making of" documentaries, as well as behind the scenes featurettes, commentary tracks, and deleted scenes. From what I can tell, all of those special features are ported over from the previous releases of the films, including those from the Target special releases. However, what is especially convenient is that the "special features" disc is crammed pack with a few never before seen featurettes released exclusively for this edition (more on that below). However, there doesn't seem to be anything new for MOCKINGJAY PART 2. These features are also located on the actual Blu-rays of the film too, probably because Lionsgate recycled the discs.

Full disclose, for those of us that bought the Target editions with additional footage, you may not enjoy as many new bonus clips as everyone else. However there is still never before seen content to enjoy, and let's be real... the deleted scenes are worth the price of the box set as it is.
THE EXTRAS
Below I listed the special features I didn't see on any of the other releases. Literally all of the bonus features from the other editions for each store's release (including Target, iTunes, Best Buy, etc.) were all combined in one place for this box set, so now you have everything in one place. Again, what I have listed below only shows the NEW bonus content I didn't see on any other release. However, the discs also contain hours and hours of additional footage that was released on all of the previous editions.

THE HUNGER GAMES

Featurettes: Pretty self-explanatory, behind the scenes looks at the making of THE HUNGER GAMES, which I didn't find on any other editions.

-Stunts of THE HUNGER GAMES

-Capital Couture: The Styles of Panem

-Feast and Famine: Creating the Food for THE HUNGER GAMES

-On the Black Carpet: THE HUNGER GAMES Premiere

-THE HUNGER GAMES: Blu-Ray Menu Easter Eggs:This requires a little explanation as it is weird text that offers nothing insightful about the film making.

Deleted Scenes: 12 never before seen deleted scenes that you can play individually or play all. If you play all, the footage lasts ~21 minutes. Some of the scenes don't have the finished CGI effects, meaning you will see green screen, but it's still interesting to see what ended up on the cutting room floor. Prim's Nightmare; The Rules of the Game; Katniss Witnesses Defiance; Girl on Fire?; Peeta Struggles During Training; "We're Even"; Gale Teaches Prim to Hunt; Meet the Other Tributes; Katniss' Flashback; Katniss Befriends Rue; Katniss Finds Water; Bread From District 11

CATCHING FIRE

Featurettes: Some more self-explanatory featurettes that could be clips from the EPK, transitioned over to the box set, especially since there is only one title that is listed as "never before seen".

-The Look of THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE

-The Quarter Quell Cast

-Bringing Panem to Life

-Taking Aim: Stunts & Weapons

-The Quell: On Location in Hawaii

-Battling The Clock Arena

-Coldplay "Atlas" Video

-Capitol Cuisine (Never Before Seen!)

-Inside District 12: The Hob

Deleted Scenes: 1 quick never before seen deleted scene between Katniss and Peeta. Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are looking out to a green screen that was probably going to be an image of a sunset.

MOCKINGJAY PART 1

Featurettes: Like CATCHING FIRE, there are featurettes from the Target edition transferred over to the box set. There is only one title that is listed as "never before seen".

-Picturing Panem: Pictures from the set of THE HUNGER GAMES with the promo photographer giving commentary

MOCKINGJAY PART 2

Same special features as the initial Blu-ray release.
FINAL DIAGNOSIS
I volunteered as tribute to review this box set because I am a huge fan of THE HUNGER GAMES and wanted to let fans know whether the release was worth the money. For hardcore fans and those that have waited to buy the Blu-rays until a more substantive release, this is the edition you want to buy. For the current price on Amazon, it's well worth the money for four Blu-rays + digital copies + old and new special features, which total about 14 hours!
