The Naked Gun
WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
Incompetent cop Frank Drebin has to foil an attempt to assassinate Queen Elizabeth II.
IS IT A GOOD MOVIE?
I remember growing up on this film and thinking what a funny man that Leslie Nielsen was. Of course, when I was little and watching THE NAKED GUN with my parents, I didnít really understand what was going on and I essentially just laughed when my parents laughed. I enjoyed silly things like Nielsenís character Frank Drebin getting bitten by a Chinese fighting fish and not really comprehending just how much sexual innuendo is thrown into the film.
Most people have seen the film by now and if youíre buying in on Blu-ray, itís most likely because youíre a fan. So the question isnít really is the film good, so much as does the film hold up? And I really hate to admit it, but THE NAKED GUN wasnít quite as funny as I remember it. I mean, I did admittedly say that I didnít understand much of it when I was young, but I expected it to be funnier. Still, you canít really go wrong with Leslie Nielsen and although Priscilla Presley isnít particularly funny, but she works well enough in her role.
Itís really weird to see O.J. Simpson in the movie during a time when we didnít all think of him as that former football player who murdered his wife and got away with it. He isnít in the movie for very long, but his short scenes are definitely good for a few laughs.
Thereís not really too much to write about for these special features. Both are pretty self-explanatoryÖ one seems like a completely pointless thing to add to the special features. If youíre buying the movie on Blu-ray because you want to own it on Blu0ray, then go for it, but if youíre hoping to additional bonus features and other cool things, then donít bother.

Not as funny as I remember, but still a classic comedy nonetheless. While I donít think that Iíll revisit THE NAKED GUN anytime soon, itís still a movie I will definitely keep in my collection. If youíre a fan of the movie, the Blu-ray isnít completely necessary to own (Iím a believer that you really donít need comedies in HD). The disc doesnít really have any awesome special features that are worthwhile, so if you already own it on DVD, you really donít need to buy againÖ unless of course you want all your movies on Blu-ray.
