WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
When Pi s (Freddie Prinze Jr.) parents are scooped up by a fishing boat, he goes to live with his aunt Pearl (Fran Drescher) in an exotic reef. He falls in love with a fellow fish, Cordelia (Evan Rachel Wood) but is bullied by a Tiger Shark, Troy (Donal Logue).
IS IT A GOOD MOVIE?
Ugh- yet another cheap-ass CGI animated film. THE REEF was actually a US/South Korean co-production, but if youve never heard of it, dont be too surprised. It went straight to DVD in North America, and now it makes its HD debut.

Basically, this is a really cheap FINDING NEMO clone, with some of the worst CGI animation Ive ever seen- making HOODWINKED look like Pixar. This only looks marginally better than reboot, despite a report $10 Million budget. Everything here is bargain basement, from the copycat plot, to the voice cast (Freddie Prinze Jr., Fran Drescher, Andy Dick, Rob Schneider). I could barely make it through the scant 70 minute running time, and this is really only worth seeing if youre either a ravenous animation buff, or have some really undemanding five-year-olds.
THE EXTRAS
No extras on the blu-ray, but this does contain the standard DVD version of the film.
FINAL DIAGNOSIS
Im not going to bother wasting too much time writing about THE REEF. I loathed it, but then again, Im not the target audience for this, am I? Its for kids, and theres nothing here even remotely interesting for anyone over five. Skip it.
