WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
A man that has made his living in the upper class underbelly of Washington D.C. finds himself wrapped up in a murder investigation. Fearing for his way of life, he starts to question who his friends are and where his loyalties lie.
IS IT A GOOD MOVIE?
Paul Schrader seems to be drawn to simple stories that involve ones sexuality as a subtext to the overall plot. Back when AMERICAN GIGOLO came out, the notion of a character being gay was a little more controversial than it is today. Gigolo pushed the standards and it made up for what was really a lackluster film. With THE WALKER, Schrader again attempts to bring the characters sexuality to the forefront, but this time weve seen it all before and its not nearly as interesting.

Schrader spent too much time trying to beat the audience over the head with the homosexuality in the film. We were constantly forced to look at provocative homosexual photos that I can only imagine were there to make the audience feel uncomfortable. As it turns out, they were more distracting than anything and were a reminder that the filmmakers put more energy into trying to shock you than to develop the story.

Overall I have to say that this was a really boring film. I was never concerned for the main characters well being and I couldnt get into the weak mystery plot. No one seemed to be in any real trouble and the characters were so shallow and empty that I was almost wanting them to die, or at least get hurt.

How you feel about this film will greatly depend on whether or not you can accept Woody Harrelson as a gay, Southern, rich man. Woody seemed extremely uncomfortable with his dialogue and accent, so if he cant buy into his character, theres really no chance for the audience. I really enjoy Kristin Scott Thomas and shes better than this film. Everyone else did a decent job, but this was clearly Woodys film to make or break. In my opinion, this film was a little out of his realm.
THE EXTRAS
Making of Walker (3:29): This is a very short fluff piece on the making of the film. A couple of quick interviews and some movie clips and were done.

FINAL DIAGNOSIS
Its not really a political thriller or mystery and its not nearly as provocative as it thinks it is. I cant really see a reason to even give this one a chance. Its too boring and I dont think many people are going to accept Woodys character.
