WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
Actor Jay Baruchel visits his estranged best friend Seth Rogen in L.A. After a day of getting stoned and playing video games, they head over to James Franco's house to party with Rogen's Hollywood friends, but their night of debauchery is interrupted by a series of cataclysmic events that just might mark the start of the apocalypse.
IS IT A GOOD MOVIE?
THIS IS THE END was- for me anyways-the funniest movie of the summer. It helps that I've been a fan of pretty much everyone involved since their early days on FREAKS & GEEKS. If you've been following Rogen, Franco and the rest of the Apatow ensemble since then, you'll likely get more out of this than anyone else.

The fact that this type of meta-comedy, where everyone plays exaggerated versions of themselves- plays so well is a tribute to the likability of this gang. The funniest part of the film is the party setpiece that takes up the first twenty-or-so minutes . It's just painfully funny stuff. Once the sci-fi, horror apocalypse stuff kicks in, it's slightly hit and miss, with the emphasis on hit.

Rogen (who also co-wrote and co-directed) with frequent collaborator Evan Goldberg, seems to be well aware of the history of this genre, and it destroys similar comedy-disaster movies like IT'S A DISASTER and RAPTURE-PALOOZA.

Of the cast, the two scene-stealers are without a doubt James Franco, who hilariously plays up his own "self-important" artiste image, and Danny McBride, as the one guy you DON'T want to be with you in the midst of the end of the world. McBride's part leads to the funniest cameo in the film, which I won't spoil here.

THE EXTRAS
If you liked THIS IS THE END, you definitely want to avoid the DVD and splurge for the Blu-ray, as the majority of the extras a Blu-ray exclusives. In addition to the usual commentary track and featurettes , there's a host of deleted scenes (a full fifteen minutes worth), including a great bit where Jonah Hill and Aziz Ansari talk about doing coke with Michael Cera. A lot of this stuff could have been left in the film.

The original short that inspired this film, Jay and Seth Vs The Apocalypse is on here too, as is a featurette examining the PINEAPPLE EXPRESS 2 video, and a hilarious five minute bit examining the brilliant cameo that caps off the film.

FINAL DIAGNOSIS
THIS IS THE END really is a hilarious film, and given that it's so jampacked with jokes, it's easy to re-watch. Of course, if you're not a fan of these guys, you can probably skip it, but then again, who doesn't at least like a few of these guys?

So, This Is The End "...destroys similar comedy-disaster movies like THIS IS THE END..." Interesting.

So, This Is The End is an exaggerated version of the similar comedy-disaster movie THIS IS THE END and destroys that version.

I actually think It's a Disaster is different enough to stand apart from This is the End. But I do think This is the End was about the funniest movie I saw in theaters. The World's End was maybe a tad smarter, but I didn't laugh as much with it. Certainly seems this was the year of end-of-world comedies.
