WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
Wayne and Garth are stuck in a small town in Illinois with nothing much to do. But when their local cable broadcast show gets the attention of a big time producer, they go on the ride of their lives.
IS IT A GOOD MOVIE?
WAYNEíS WORLD always holds a special place in my heart because when this movie came out, I happened to be the age the film was targeting (13). I religiously watched SNL during the early 90ís golden years and when the movie came out, I was as giddy as a schoolgirl. To be honest, I donít remember saying anything for a year that wasnít a quote from this film. But that was a longÖvery long time ago and I hadnít seen the film since. So I was eager to go back and recapture the magic that is WAYNEíS WORLD.

Thereís a saying that you can never go home. Itís kind of the same thing with movies when you go back and revisit one you remember liking as a kid. But Iím happy to say that even though I didnít love WAYNEíS WORLD this time around, I still really liked it. The beauty of the film is in Mike Myers and Dana Carvey. Carvey has always been great, but Myers has turned into one of the least funny comedians today. Sometimes I have to remind myself that he used to be funny and he showed some of his comedic timing as Wayne.

It still amazes me that they managed to take a short skit about two losers making a local cable show and turned it into two successful movies. But it works and actually works well. I kept trying to think what I would do better, or what they could have done better and I donít really have anything. I think the filmmakers managed to maximize everything they had given they were working with such a simple idea.

But donít get me wrong; the film isnít spectacular. Itís just a fun, simple movie that brings back a lot of memories. Geesh. I just reread that and it makes me sound/feel really old. But you get the idea.
THE EXTRAS
Commentary with Penelope Spheeris: Spheeris gives this track everything sheís got and it ends up being a joy to listen to. Iím disappointed others didnít show up to help her out, but she covered just about everything. Her extensive knowledge of the film and the fact she managed to avoid long pauses makes this one worth listening to.

Extreme Close-up (23:13): Everyone shows up to discuss the film, SNL and the characters. Thereís a lot of butt kissing, but itís a decent making-of featurette. Itís no surprise that Myers and Carvey improvised a lot of the film and thatís a skill that Myers has definitely lost over the years.

FINAL DIAGNOSIS
If it has been a while since you sat down with Wayne and Garth, I think you might be surprised how well these films hold up. But if you run around quoting the film, donít come back and blame me.
