WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
A seemingly "nice guy" school guidance counselor gets accused of rape by one of his students, a sexy, rich bratty girl with a great ass and an axe to grind. While the evidence is basically her word against his, things get complicated when another student, this one a "goth", weird girl with a great ass (and no apparent axe to grind), comes forward with her own tale about the teacher raping her as well. The man is taken to court where the shit really hits the fan while twists and turns ensue...
IS IT A GOOD MOVIE?
I saw this film in theaters back in 1998 and hadn't seen or reviewed it since (one of my first written reviews for the site). In fact, I didn't read my original review of the film before watching this unrated version on DVD, just to see how my opinion might've changed/remained the same, since that time. From what I saw this time around, I enjoyed the film on the whole, loved its many seedy characters, fun actors and unforeseeable (and somewhat exaggerated) curve balls. It all felt like a good-looking, younger, sexier version of the 80s' prime-time soap opera "Dynasty", complete with a girl-on-girl slap-fight in a pool, but unlike Joan Collins and Linda Evans, the two hotties in this flick went from slapping to sucking...each others tongues!! And I guess that's where my greatest enjoyment came from this film: the hot chicks and the over-the-top sexual situations.
Look mom, it's Matt Dillon sucking Denise Richards' boobies and squeezing her tush. Look mom, it's Neve Campbell removing her shirt (with back to camera...boo!) and making out with Richards...and look, they're making out again in this scene...and wow, again in this scene! If you're into fake boobs (sorry Denise, I love the knockers but there's about as much plastic in there as Donald Trump's wallet), movie actresses making out, three-ways, tit shots, cock shots and plenty of teasing and non-teasing by the very sexy Denise Richards (she talks on the phone in only her bra, folks!), you'll love this flick's eye-candy, if anything. McNaughton also does a great job of conveying the Florida heat and sensuality, and not spending too much time with any one character, while allowing plenty of events to incur during the film's quick runtime.
Unfortunately, they should have stopped the film at a buck thirty-five, and not allowed it to go on for another 15-20 minutes, in which one preposterous twist follows another. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the shower scene with Bacon isn't a nod to TV's "Dallas" shower scene finale. I did like how they added some earlier scenes in during the end credits though (stay until the very end....there's even ONE MORE TWIST!), but it felt a little cheap -- like they weren't able to fully explain everything in the movie and felt the need to tack it on during the credits. Still inventive though. Bill Murray also has a small, but affable, role as a local goofy lawyer that lightens things up. Overall, the film plays its sex card all over the block, but also maintains a pretty fun mystery and believable turns, for the most part. Campbell and Richards are also great in their respective roles, and so are their make-out sessions. I didn't take it all too seriously and had a trashy, good time. So did my pants.
None to speak of, unless you consider filmographies and previews, "extras". As for the "unrated" aspect of the film, I'm not exactly sure what parts were added to this DVD, but it did feel like there were a lot more shots of the two lead chicks making out here. No Campbell tit shots or Bacon/Dillon in the shower though (Word on the street was that there was a man-on-man shower scene in the film originally, but the director removed it because he thought it was too "gratuitous"). Overall, quite steamy.
A fun film that delivers in terms of good looks, groovy mystery, interesting characters and cheesy, entertaining plot turns. Nobody is going to pass this film off as a Hitchockian thriller, but if lots of seedy sex, get-rich schemes, girl-on-girl action and the thought of seeing Kevin Bacon's pee-pee on your television screen, make you movie-horny, rent it and have a blast! I wouldn't necessarily suggest a purchase because the DVD comes with zero extras (unless you consider the Kleenex box that you buy to go along with your viewing, an extra). Have fun.
