WHAT'S IT ABOUT?
A transfer bus full of a hardened criminals crashes in the backwoods and must face an evil more terrifying than themselves—cannibal hillbillies.
IS IT A GOOD MOVIE?
I’ve seen neither WRONG TURN nor WRONG TURN 2, so I’m afraid I can’t speak to how WRONG TURN 3: LEFT FOR DEAD compares (though I heard the second one was actually pretty good). But on its own merits, this movie left me quite unimpressed.

I wasn’t expecting DELIVERANCE, but I at least thought we’d get some fun killer redneck action. However, instead of a slasher movie, WRONG TURN 3 felt more like another SAW ripoff, since the hillbillies insist on setting up elaborate traps to kill their victims. Whatever happened to good old fashioned murdering? I don’t need Cletus to take the time and foresight to build a barb wire booby trap. The fact that deformed inbreeders want to kill and eat you should be scary enough without having to fallback on gimmicks.

The story is really, really stupid as you’d expect. Having our “victims” be criminal scum probably sounded like a fun twist on paper, but it’s just not pulled off well enough here, especially since none of the people onscreen are compelling enough to root for. Other bad ideas include the fact that the big showdown between the big bad criminal and the killer redneck is a fistfight, and that Deus Ex Machina via dog happens more than once. WRONG TURN 3 also decides to go all RETURN OF THE KING on us with multiple endings, all of which are staggeringly bad.

Still, if it’s just fun gore and good kills you’re looking for in your direct to DVD sequels, this one isn’t too shabby. They definitely make good on their unrated promise, with lots of gruesome stuff, including an arrow through the boob, people sliced up real good, and a live brain eating reminiscent of HANNIBAL. Of course, as is the sad standard nowadays, the gore is mostly CG, but we have to choose our battles wisely.
THE EXTRAS
Deleted Scenes: Only an extra minute of footage, some of which explains what happened to the female cop…if you care.

Action, Gore and Chaos: The director talks about the problems you encounter making a super low budget with limited time, which is actually more interesting than the usual EPK stuff.

Brothers in Blood: This featurette on the cast was surprising, if only because it reveals most of the actors are actually British. Everyone talks about how hard it was to work while chained together and make it seem like a fun shoot.

Three Fingers Fight Night: A specific look at the fight scenes including the showdown between Chavez and the Hillbilly.
FINAL DIAGNOSIS
Like most direct to DVD horror sequels nobody wanted, WRONG TURN 3 is a really crappy movie, but if you’re looking for gory kills and cheap thrills you might be mildly amused once in a while.

Extra Tidbit: Eliza Dushku was rumored to reprise her role from the first WRONG TURN but that was obviously never gonna happen.
