Maybe my expectations for Jim Carrey these days are extremely low, but this film surprised the hell out of me. I figured Iíd seen all the funniest moments in the previews, but that wasnít really the case. The film was consistent with the laughs and even had two scenes that had me rolling in laughter. This is a funny movie and fans of the old Jim Carrey are going to be very pleased to see glimpses of him in this.
I had heard complaints about the ending, but I thought they ended it extremely well. Thereís a point with every comedy where the joke is up and they have to wrap up the film. I thought they did well tying everything up, although I couldíve done without the motorcycle scene at the end. Other than that, I thought the film was very well scripted from start to finish.
Iím a big Jim Carrey fan, but I think the positives run further than the lead star. There is a message to the movie, but the filmmakers donít beat you over the head with it. I also liked the performances from the supporting cast, especially Bradley Cooper. Iím becoming a big Cooper fan and I hope he gets a chance to carry his own film. But YES, MAN is a great story, with good performances from Carrey and the adorable Deschanel makes for a surprisingly good film.
Jim Carrey: Extreme Yes Man (11:52): I like it when actors do their own stunts and this was all about Carrey doing his own stunts. And yes, he really did jump off the bridge, which was very cool.
On set with Danny Wallace (8:32): Wallace was the guy who wrote the book that the movie is based on. Heís a British guy that is actually a pretty cool character. He does some interviews and walks us around the set. I enjoyed it and found him to be a pretty funny guy.
Future Sounds (5:28): The band in the film actually did their own music. This is kind of a fake VH1 Behind the Music thing about the band. Itís as enjoyable as you might imagine and gets old after a while.
Say yes to Red Bull (2:06): Jim Carrey always seems like he just drank a Red Bull, so he doesnít really need any help. But he really did change after he downed a Red Bull. Itís always funny to see someone drink a Red Bull that has never had one before.
Gag Reel (5:35): Like Iíve said, I like Jim Carrey, so this was a good time since itís more of Jim acting like Jim. Well worth the time if youíre a fan.
Yes, Man Party Central (2:16): In character, Rhys Darby takes us on a tour of his apartment. It was fine, but should have been wrapped into a longer featurette.
Additional Scenes (7:31): All of these were fine and could have been left in the movie and it would have been fine. They were enjoyable and just as good as the film.
