Tim Burton Comingsoon.net have apparently learned that scraggly-haired, eccentric, sun-averse director extraordinaire Tim Burton has dropped out of directing RIPLEY'S BELIEVE IT OR NOT! and Paramount is now actively searching for a replacement. Jim Carrey has been attached to star as Robert Ripley, a man who canvassed the world to amass a compendium of unique oddities and present them in what later became the titular popular TV show, for a long time now so it may be that two exceedingly eccentric, Hollywood A-list personalities is just way too much crazy for one particular production. The film was originally set to begin lensing in 2008 for an early 2009 release so, if this is indeed true, who knows how that timeline will be affected. Read Comingsoon.net's report HERE.

Extra Tidbit: "The Believe It or Not" franchise was started by Ripley in 1918 as a newspaper cartoon panel.

Tim Burton is my favorite director and the only one who could have done this film justice. His style of film making is just so, I don't know. Just the way his work jumps out at you with that "burton" quality is what could have made this great. I would have loved to see those fucked up oddities through a Tim Burton lense.

i was so looking forward to burton and the screenwriting team of scott alexander & larry karaszewski working together again on this film. "ed wood" was fantastic (maybe even burton's best?), as were the other biopics scott & larry wrote. unfortunately, i guess studios didn't think their award-winning scripts were bankable enough to produce as they were forced to enter low-brow / kiddie comedy hell for the better part of this decade. seriously, how can the same minds that wrote the understated, witty & oddly touching scripts for "ed wood", "the people vs. larry flint" & "man on the moon" be responsible for such dreck as "screwed" & "agent cody banks"?
