Cage thinks he's Fly?

Strike Back below!
by: Dave Davis Feb. 27, 2007

It's been a while since we heard anything about the latest remake of THE FLY -- I thought it was deader than Geena Davis' film career, but then something like this comes out of nowhere.

Apparently Nic Cage is going around saying he'd love to be in the new "re-imagining". David Cronenberg, the wonderfully demented mind behind the gooey 80s version of the sci-fi tale, is (no lie) planning to direct an opera of his brilliant sticky film but seems to be "in the know" on the intended movie remake. He says that Cage and his amorphous hairline are interested in taking over for Jeff Goldblum as the new Brundle replacement.

Of course, this doesn't actually mean much -- the project has been silent since it was initially brought to Fox Searchlight a few years back by writer-director Todd Lincoln, who (as far as I know) has moved on to adapting the horror comic HACK/SLASH. And Cage is constantly bumping his gums about movies he'd love to be part of (he made public mention of wanting to star in the OLDBOY remake)... but this sure would be fascinating casting. Or maybe he's just looking for revenge against the bees.

Thanks to Jessica S. for the tip!

Extra Tidbit: Cage's only feature directing credit is the New Orleans gigolo story SONNY, which starred Spidey-hater James Franco.

Ah.....HA HA HA HA HA HA!
[link]s The Fly remains one of the best sci-fi/horror flicks of all time. I could not care less about this remake of a remake. And putting Nic (my junk gets stiff every time I hear the name Elvis) Cage in the flick only makes me want to avoid it like the plague...or a hideous, disfiguring accident that will turn me in to a giant anthropomo...

let's hope the fly remake remains a silent undiscussed project. What the hell does it need a remake for, great acting and directing, awesome and still wonderful gore. I sometimes think that these remakes are nothing more than another director's vision. Who thinks he knows what he's doing, but doesn't.

Netflix?
Kent...if you use NetFlix to rent a movie, ultimately won't some of that money still end up in the hands of the idiot filmmakers (NetFlix must pay a royalty to rent a movie, no?).

Jeff Goldblum was fine
Goldblum was brilliant as Brundlefly, and it's too soon for remakes of 1980's movies (oh, except Batman...sheeesh)

While I don't think there is any need (or personally, any desire) for another remake of "The Fly," I will admit I think if anyone could pull it off, it'd be Nic Cage.

NO,NO,NO!!!!!!!!!!Evilevilevilevilevil
Out side of $$PR$FIT$$ name ONE reason Cronenburgs The FLY should be remade.I think Mr.Cage did a wonderful job in the comedy "The Wickerman", i'm not against him at all.LOVED him in the "Vampires Kiss" as well. This though is a HORRIBLE idea,HORRIBLE!!Leave "The FLY" alone.Go remake Bloodrayne ,now theres a movie that needs attention.
