Out of all the remakes, reimaginings and reboots of classic movies these days, I’m not sure I’ve ever seen one get you guys as riled up as Stephen Norrington’s proposed "revamping" of THE CROW. but like it or not, the script is allegedly done, and the studio wants to start casting.

So we can complain all we want about how this is a travesty against cinema, God and Brandon Lee, but the best thing we can hope for is that they cast a lead actor that can make a damn good go of it, and hopefully the script will be there to back him up as the new CROW.

This is one casting call that I honestly have no idea who could fill the role. In the original film, acting ability is second to being able to look terrifying and kick a whole lot of ass, so I would think we’re looking for a real martial artist, not just some actor they throw into a judo class for a month before shooting. Though I suppose with enough training, anyone can be taught to fight. I mean they made Malin Akerman into a badass for WATCHMEN for crying out loud, anything’s possible.

I know you all hate that this movie exists, but let’s try to find a silver lining by picking a Lee replacement that might actually make it worth watching. But moving on from roles we’d rather not recast, let’s move on to one that we’ve all been thinking about for years.

Last Week: BILBO BAGGINS

With THE HOBBIT’s timetable all laid out, it’s time to start thinking about who the titular role will go to in Guillermo del Toro’s vision of the film. And here’s who you guys picked to play original ring finder, Bilbo Baggins:

1. Martin Freeman (24%) 2. James McAvoy (13%) 3. Simon Pegg (7%)

I have to applaud you guys, your overwhelming #1 pick for the role, UK Office veteran Martin Freeman, is a stroke of genius. He looks the part perhaps more than anyone I’ve ever seen, and I think if given the right script and director, would make a great Bilbo. I knew James McAvoy would hit this list, and I think he’d be great (and a more likely pick for the studio), but I’d really like to see Freeman do it. And Pegg? Lord knows I love him in everything, and if you squint he could pass for a Hobbit, but I just don’t think this is the movie for him.

OK, time to start shouting out those Crow picks!

Extra Tidbit: Please pick Statham, just so I can photoshop him with a stringy black wig next week.

As much as I don't want one - it's happening. If they are going for another Draven film I'd have to say Kevin Zegers. He's now in his mid 20s and can hold the Draven look well.

I'm down with statham as Draven. Lord knows the man could kick serious ass. As a Crow fan I'm very nervous about this, BUT there is a slight possibility that it could be decent. but Brandon Lee will always be Draven.

what about Ben Foster he was pretty bad ass in 3:10 to Yuma and was brooding in Hostage. and Seriously its not gonna kill the memory of Brandon Lee to redo this. and hears another thorn they will someday recast Joker he is to big to take out of the franchise. sometimes people get the character and actor mixed up.I loved the Crow and Dark Knight and recasting these rolls to me is the greatest testament to them that they played the character so well that you NEED more of the character.

I don't want some big, scary bad-ass. I want a normal guy who really loves his girlfriend. Edward Norton has intense acting chops. He can handle the physicality without looking like a standard action star. I think Jared Leto is also a very interesting choice. That being said, just because a script was written doesn't mean you have to greenlight this fucking movie. Please, just don't. I'll make a deal. If Dimension/Miramax announces that they are passing on this film out of respect for Brandon Lee, I'll go buy 5 [link] BluRays.

Most of the suggestions on here so far have actually been pretty good, and I'm glad they're suggesting real actors rather than martial artists. I just re-watched The Crow last weekend and I know everybody always talks about what a terrific showcase it was for Lee's martial arts abilities, but honestly as awesome as the film is, there's not a ton of action in it. Certainly not anything they couldn't teach your typical with a couple with a couple of weeks of training.

Anyway, I agree with The_Soloist, my pick is Joseph Gordon Levitt. I think he'd be absolutely perfect for this role. He's (in my opinion at least) one of the finest actors of the rising generation and is pretty much the perfect age for the part. He can bring the sense of melancholy that the role would need while at the same time still have a commanding screen pressence. Plus I'm sure his indie film background will appeal to the high school-college crowd they hope to target with this.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt would be a good pick for "The Crow". He would just have to "bulk" up a little.

Since the remake is inevitable thats my pick. Going with a big name or a rising star like Chris Pine doesnt seem like the right way to handle this. Leto would bring the creepy, depressing feel the character needs.

Plus he'd bring his own make-up on the set.

I'd be happy to see Luke Goss take on this role. He kicked ass as Jared Nomak in Blade II and also as Prince Nuada in Hellboy II.
