It seems like 'CLOVERFIELD' news is literally pouring in now. The Hollywood Reporter, via Slashfilm has given us a nice little piece about casting news on the flick:
The casting process was just as mysterious. No scripts or even scene pages were sent out; agents who were contacted were simply asked if their client wanted to be in the movie or not. Eventually a cast, made up mostly of relative unknowns, was put together; it includes Michael Stahl-David (”The Black Donnellys”), Odet Jasmin, Mike Vogel (”Supercross”) and Lizzy Kaplan (”The Class”).
It's also being reported that the film is being shot for less than $30 million, which is extremely cheap when compared to most films being shot nowadays. Especially when this thing is supposed to be some massive monster movie. There's also talk about the film being shot entirely from the perspective of a handheld camera. It's a cool idea, but I'm not convinced it would work for an entire film. Still, no one is confirming anything at this point.
In other news, IGN has speculated that the film may be using the working title 'SLUSHO', the name of the slurpee-esque beverage that is offered to Jennifer Garner's character in the second episode of ALIAS. Personally, I don't care about the title, I'm already sold on this thing, by the super covert advertising campaign. Stay tuned for more info as it breaks!

The use of a hand-held camera to tell the story makes sense. IF the film is to be a tribute to the Lovecraft mythos, most of those stories were told from a first-person perspective. |

SORRY
Was there any news in this article? Slusho was about it, but it seems like a lot of filler was shoved in there full of stuff we already know (casting, budget etc) |

ANGELIUS
People say that "The Blair Witch project" was good film because they enjoyed that it defied conventions and asked the audience members to emply their imaginations instead of feeding us with some exaggerrated torture and unrealistic CGI monster. I think it was brilliant, and people only find it "annoying" because the characters acted the way that real people would in that situation. In fact, I think for that reason alone the acting is superb. |

I have to ask a question... Why do people keep saying that The Blair Witch Project was a good film? It is an embarrasment to film. It was one of the most annoying, horrible films ever made in my opinion. It sickens me to think that it is still out there today being watched! |

I think the biggest selling point would be if they NEVER title it, and people who have to go see it at theaters just go, "Uhh...two for that monster flick, please."
Also, if you're gonna use handheld video for an example, don't use a sucky movie like signs. Use something like the end credits of Zack Snyder's "Dawn of the Dead" |

to be honest the 30 mill tag makes me happy. Looks as though the studio is relying on talent as opposed to a price tag. Personally i was a huge fan Blair Witch, and although I have my doubts about Romero's Diary of the Dead, this project seems extremely promising. |

DOUBTS ON HOW SUCCESSFUL A HANDHELD CAMERA MOVIE CAN BE?
Look at the Blair Witch Project... well, don't look at the awful movie itself, but look how damn successful it was. It made $250 mil worldwide on a budget that's basically close to what my poor ass makes in a year.
And this movie at least promises to show some action in it, unlike the Blair Witch. Handheld camera's give it a more real look to it, no matter how fake it is. |

COOL STUFF
I actually think that the handheld camera would work great. It gives the film a sense of realism that would kick ass. Remember that scene in "Signs" when we are watching the home video from the kid's birthday party and trying to see what they are all excited about? Remember how tense and exciting that was? Now think, a whole movie like that. |
