Cooper in Dark Fields Nov. 5, 2009

A-Team and A-list member Bradley Cooper knows how to spread himself around -- romcoms, Vegas raunch, big action and a little horror.

Now the consistently scruffy actor is dipping into pharmaceutical weirdness with DARK FIELDS, a thriller from director Neil Burger (THE ILLUSIONIST). The movie involves a guy who takes some top-secret government smart drugs (described as "Viagra for the brain"), and experiences "sudden financial and social success but soon discovers that the drug has lethal and lasting side effects, including 'trip-switching,' a phenomenon in which time moves with a stop-motion quality. Before long, mysterious antagonists are pursuing him."

The project (based on an Alan Glynn book) is described as being in the vein of THE GAME and FIGHT CLUB, but I'll be damned if that doesn't sound a bit like JACOB'S LADDER to me. It's also high-end sloppy seconds for Cooper -- Shia LaBeouf was originally slotted as the star.

Extra Tidbit: Burger made his debut with the underappreciated faux-documentary INTERVIEW WITH THE ASSASSIN, starring "Hey, it's that guy" actor Raymond J. Barry.

Neil Burger is a talented director, he's 3 for 3 IMO, I'll put effort into seeing anything he directs.

I think he might be able to pull this off. I just saw Midnight Meat Train and thought he was awesome in it.
