Crow still continuing
The new attempt at THE CROW is still carrying on.
As everyone has been saying, it's hard to get mad at all the remakes/reboots/re-imaginings that come through here. However, I am not a fan of doing whatever it is their doing with THE CROW.
During press for BROTHERS, producer Ryan Kavanaugh gave an update to io9.com on a CROW relaunch. The script as you may already know is being penned and directed by Stephen Norrington. This is the first thing that bothered me, they gave a chance to the guy who directed THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN. I'm sorry, I just have nothing but bad feelings about that film. As far as the script is concerned apparently it's great, still needs to be tweaked, and hasn't been officially greenlit yet but they expect it to be soon enough.
Kavanaugh says that he can't really talk about the casting yet, "We've got good ideas. We're looking. We're in discussions....I think it's something cool, we're approaching it differently. It's really a whole relaunch of the franchise, much more of a dark superhero type. As far as if it will be a known or unknown actor playing Eric Draven, "It will be an actor you've heard of, yes. We're not ruling anything out. We're looking at both, with the very well known and the "very talented but they may not be quite there yet." Kavanaugh did want everyone to know that it's not a remake, but a relaunch.
When it comes to the makeup will it be the same? Nope. It's going to be completely different. He compares the new perspective on the character to be like the differences between the first BATMAN and BATMAN BEGINS. The new CROW will actually be more modern and relatable while still sticking with the "flavor" of the original idea. With all this news, I still don't feel any better.

Extra Tidbit: When I spoke to THE CROW creator, James O'Barr at Dallas Con, he said at first he thought Brandon Lee was too sensitive to play Draven, but his performance changed his mind. He couldn't imagine anyone else ever playing the part that because Lee was perfect. On a strange note, he did say a name that was getting thrown up a lot for the new Draven, Jason Statham. In response to that, he was noticeably bothered saying, "There's nothing goth about that guy."

So, making Draven more relatable and modern? Facial piercings? Twitter account?

Oh, and I don't think a "Crow" has to be goth since this is a "reboot" or whatever... but definitely not excited about the possibility of Statham in this (even though I like him otherwise).
