A little person poses as a baby in order to get close to a young married couple that happen to have the diamond he stole. The couple takes him in as their own and confusion ensues as he tries to curb his adult ways.
I can’t imagine how a movie like this gets made. How in the world would a team of executives and creative talent think for a second that a movie with this subject matter would be appealing to anyone? The Wayans stretched it with WHITE CHICKS, but this one treats the audience with such little respect that it actually makes you question whether or not the Wayans are even trying anymore.
First, you have to get used to the CGI head of Marlon Wayans the entire movie. If you manage to get past that, then you have to accept that people in movie-land could actually believe a little person dressed like a baby could pass as a baby. If you don’t have any problems with the movie yet, then I guess this film was made for you. The problem, of course is that most audience members lost interest in the film’s trailer and rightfully so. The ones that chose not to suffer through this are the lucky ones.
It’s a slap-stick comedy, but it’s not funny…at all. I didn’t laugh once and I found myself in disbelief that this film ever got made. It definitely requires a suspension of belief, but even then, it’s not a funny movie. I’m also not sure what market this film is targeted towards since it has a PG-13 rating. Adults are going to be bored out of their minds and most of the jokes will sail over the heads of younger audiences. At the end of the film, I was relieved that it was over. Somehow, I don’t think that’s the marketing pitch the Wayans were shooting for.
Video: Widescreen (1.85:1): This is a fine transfer if you can handle the content.
Audio: English 5.1, French 5.1, with English and French subtitles: No complaints on the audio front.
Commentary with the Wayan brothers: The Wayans keep this at a PG-13 level both on content and intelligence. It suffers from lengthy pauses, which is odd given the number of participants. In order to appreciate this track, you must enjoy the Wayans.
Big Comedy (15:09): This was a pretty decent featurette that provided a quick look at all aspects of the film. If you watch this first, then this will be the first time you’re introduced to Linden Porco. He was the guy that provided the body for the main character.
From the Ground Up (15:03): This is a technical look at the special effects used in the film. It’s done by the technicians and costume designers, so it’s a nice break from the Wayans.
Linden’s World (11:19): This focuses solely on Linden Porco and doesn’t have any scenes from the film in it. He’s an interesting kid with an interesting condition. I found this featurette to be the best of the special features and recommended to anyone that was interested in the movie.
Method or Madness (3:34): I think this is what happens when technical geeks get bored. It’s a mock-featurette that features Marlon Wayans getting “shrunk” to understand his character. Don’t bother with this one.
Deleted and Extended scenes (28:06): Most of the film is improvisation so a lot of these scenes are alternate takes of current scenes. I found them all to be the same quality as the film, which is obviously not very high.
There are also some Previews.
I guess if you love SCARY MOVIE and can’t get enough of WHITE CHICKS, then this film will fit right in with your library. However, be warned that afterwards, you’re going to want that 98 minutes back.
